samba.1.9.18p10.3.README Nov 11, 1998 These packages contains Samba, a file server that lets an NEXTSTEP/OPENSTEP computer share directories and printers with computers running Microsoft Windows. This latest release (port 3) fixes a few more file locking problems. See CHANGELOG below for details. See the samba home page for more information about Samba. The source distribution contains a fair amount of documentation for using and configuring samba. In doing so, cleanup and better implement the similar "fix" that took place in port 2. (Reported by James Rowland <jhrowlan@nps.navy.mil> ) * Fix addtosmbpass and smbadduser scripts so that they work (addto* requires gawk). OK, they work better (before they would just bomb out) , but I haven't verified the validity of their output. (Reported by James Rowland <jhrowlan@nps.navy.mil> ) * These locking problems are significant enough now so that I will submit patches to samba's authors. Oct 29, 1998 (1.9.18p10 NEXT 3.x and NEXT4.x port 2) * Samba fail if locking and/or share modes were enabled in the smb.conf config file. I had disabled fcntl (POSIX) style locking at compile time, since it doesn't work on NS/OS; with locking / share modes enabled in smb.conf, samba will deny access to all files if it cannot ATTEMPT a lock. If I renable the use of fcntl locking and let it attempt a lock (and fail), it is happy to allow access to any/all files. (Reported by Alex Tavcar <fast@cyberjunkie.com> ) Sep 28, 1998 (1.9.18p10 NEXT3.x and NEXT4.x port 1) * Fixup strftime bug, where it would put ?'s instead of correct timestamps in log files. * Fixup Makefile for NEXT3, NEXT4, and Rhapsody/MacOSX builds.
