This is the README for cvt_mailrc.N.bs.tar.gz [Download] [Browse] [Up]
This tar archive contains the lex sources and the binary executable of a filter that converts the .mailrc alias format to the format used by NeXT Mail in the file that is usually located in ~/.NeXT/.mailalias (one for every user, of course), so that you can use your old unix addresses in NeXT Mail. DISCLAIMER: everything is provided AS IS, and I will not consider myself responsible for whatever could happen if you follow my instructions (so imagine if you dont follow them :-) ). If you are not frightened by the disclaimer, anyway, here is how to proceed. 1) save your original .mailalias file, just in case you have some new addresses in NeXT Mail that were not in .mailrc mv ~/.NeXT/.mailalias ~/.NeXT/.mailalias.old 2) convert your .mailrc cvt_mailrc 3) quit NeXT Mail if it is running and re-run it... try Send Addresses and enjoy!!!! 4) if you have some new addresses and groups in NeXT Mail that were not in .mailrc, edit ~/.NeXT/.mailalias and ~/.NeXT/.mailalias.old, and add them (by hand, I'm sorry :-) from ~/.NeXT/.mailalias.old to ~/.NeXT/.mailalias, remembering that the user addresses must all be put in the group Private Users: following the preceding ones and WITHOUT newlines. 5) A NeXT interface (as a service in the Mail menu) will come out as soon as I can get some documentation on the 2.0 version of NeXTStep, allowing me to do something smarter than reverse-engineering when programming with the GUI. --Roberto Di Cosmo <dicosmo@dmi.ens.fr> Dipartimento di Informatica LIENS Universita' di Pisa Ecole Normale Superieure Corso Italia, 40 45, Rue d'Ulm Pisa ITALY Paris FRANCE
