This is the README for nvi.1.76.s.tar.gz [Download] [Browse] [Up]

nvi 1.76 for the NEXTSTEP NIHS platforms (the Apple MacStep (?)
version coming soon) is available as

	ftp://ftp.inslab.uky.edu/pub/editors/nvi-1.76/nvi-1.76-NIHS.tar.gz

This is nvi, a replacement for the vi editor. It comes with the
BSD4.4-Lite derived systems (such as BSD/OS, FreeBSD, NetBSD, etc),
however, it compiles on just about everything thanks to GNU's
autoconf system.

The advantages of nvi over the old vi which comes with NEXTSTEP
are that it offers many more features over the old vi. nvi is also
available for many operating systems so it is easier dealing with
a consistent version of vi which acts the same no matter where you
are. Man pages and reference manuals are included.

The untouched sources are available as

	ftp://ftp.inslab.uky.edu/pub/editors/nvi-1.76/nvi-1.76.tar.gz

nvi is maintained by Keith Bostic <bostic@cs.berkeley.edu>. New
versions are released in

	ftp://ftp.cs.berkeley.edu/ucb/4bsd/
