Pcomm Problems
So you are having problems with Pcomm. Don't worry the solution is near...
First a very special thanks to Jim Miller for helping me figure out how it works.
This configuration is made for a Hayes compatible modem, plugged into the NeXT serial A port.
Location of files
Pcomm files should be located in /LocalApps/pcomm
Make a folder called pcomm in your LocalApps folder and copy all the file there. The files should be owned by root.
Permission
I think one of the key elements of solving the problem is to change the permission on /dev/cua and /dev/cufa to
read/write for owner, group, and other.
Pcomm Setup
The first line in your TTY setup screen should look like this.
TTY name Modem name Init speed
1) ttya HAYES 2400
Your Modem setup screen should look like this.
1) Modem name (4 of 4) .... HAYES
2) Modem init string ...... ATX4Q0!
3) Dialing command ........ ATDP
4) Dialing cmd suffix ..... !
g ......... ~~+++~~ATHO
6) Auto baud detect ....... N
7) 300 baud connect .......
8) 1200 baud connect ......
9) 2400 baud connect ...... CONNECT
10) 4800 baud connect ......
11) 9600 baud connect ......
12) 19200 baud connect .....
13) No connect string 1 .... BUSY
14) No connect string 2 .... VOICE
15) No connect string 3 .... NO CARRIER
16) No connect string 4 ....
Your Dialing Directory should look like this.
Name Number Baud P D S Dpx Script/TTY
1- GEnie 555-5555 2400-N-7-1 F ttya
The really important item here is the ttya in the Script/TTY.
Hope that everything is working now!
Bye, Bye.
