This is the README for am.1.16.s.tar.gz [Download] [Browse] [Up]
am is an Answering machine/Fax/Datacall handler for ZyXEL U-modems and computers running the NeXTSTEP operating system. am was originally written by Patrick Stein <jolly@cis.uni-muenchen.de>. This is am.1.16 which adds ADPCM_3 support (much better sound quality) and some bug fixes. Axel (kiwi@belly.in-berlin.de) What's new? ----------- The new version of zyxel2snd will convert ADPCM2 and ADPCM3 coded zyxel sound files to 9600 samples/second linear 16-bit .snd files. Still, zyxel2snd reads from stdin and writes to stdout. You can improve the sound quality, get rid of the clicks and save diskspace by doing a sndconvert -s 8012 -f 1 -o <newfile> <soundfile> on the converted sound. am will automatically do this conversion and put the new soundfile in lib_am/New_Ones_Snd if present. snd3zyxel generates a .zyxel File from a .snd file in ADPCM3 coding. Usage is same as snd2zyxel. The bug in am which caused the recorded soundfiles to contain errors was fixed by changing rec_message. If it happens that a recorded .zyxel file is _not_ playable as a welcome message, re-record it with the new am. How to? ------- compile and install as usual (see README.ps) Be sure to have defined SPEECH to ADPCM_3. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I'm still working on improvements to am. Send me your wishlist. Enjoy. Any questions, suggestions, bug reports, postcards and chocolate should be sent to the following address: kiwi@belly.in-berlin.de I will gladly accept NeXTmail. --- Axel Habermann \\|// "Wenn Du nicht kiwi@belly.in-berlin.de (NeXT-Mail) )o o( weisst was Du kiwi@cs.tu-berlin.de (NO NeXT-Mail) \ | / tust, mach's am.1.16: +49 30 4543046 \~/ mit Eleganz!"
