bzip2.0.9.0c.1.README Dec 14, 1998 This archive contains an Installer.app package for bzip2 (v0.9.0c), port #1. file: bzip2.0.9.0c.1.NIS.b.tar.gz desc: for NEXTSTEP 3.x (x>=2) and OpenStep for Mach 4.x sum: 15939 119 md5sum: 8eca1f4c9038f2ffdf8d48f5a2923423 probably to be placed at: http://www.peak.org/next/apps/unix/ ftp://ftp.next.peak.org/pub/next/apps/unix/ From the README: Bzip2 compresses files using the Burrows-Wheeler block-sorting text compression algorithm, and Huffman coding. Compression is generally considerably better than that achieved by more conventional LZ77/LZ78-based compressors, and approaches the performance of the PPM family of statistical compressors. PORTING NOTES Minor Makefile and source code modifications were required to build. The changes are included in the diff/patch file: src/bzip2-0.9.0c/bzip2-0.9.0c.patch CREDITS bzip2 http://www.muraroa.demon.co.uk/ Rex Dieter <rdieter@math.unl.edu> Computer System Manager Universtity of Nebraska-Lincoln Department of Mathematics and Statistics http://www.math.unl.edu/~rdieter/
