SOFTWARE AVAILABLE announcement submitted 10/14/94 to comp.sys.next.announce
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Buggy SoFTware (aka Brian Hill <bhill@physics.ucla.edu>) releases version 1.1 of the RoachesView BackSpace module.

RoachesView is designed to be run as a background as well as a screensaver
since it is only in the latter case that the behavior of the roaches is
interesting. Care has been taken to use the same background color as selected
through Preferences. The color used reverts to black when RoachesView is
used as a screensaver. --Brian Hill <bhill@physics.ucla.edu>

Substantial changes to make RoachesView use less cpu and animate more smoothly were made several months ago. The only recent change is a quick hack to eliminate a broken feature (search the source for "Hack" if you're curious).

v 1.1 is tri-fat, and has no known bugs. An oft-requested feature, the ability to kill roaches, has not been added, but the source (Copyleft 1994) is also on the archives, and if you want to turn RoachesView into a game, you are welcome to.

The performance of RoachesView has improved due to the suggestions of
Grant Baillie, Darcy Brockbank, Mitch Golden, Paul Griffin, Scott Hess, and others.

and may migrate alongside (or replace) v1.0, which is presently in /software/NeXT/binaries/screen.

Installation:

RoachesView.BackModule should be installed in /LocalLibrary/BackSpaceViews
or in ~/Library/BackSpaceViews.

If you get the message, "Could not dynamically load class: RoachesView,"
you are probably running an older version of BackSpace.

Additional Information:

See the v1.0_PRESS_RELEASE file (included in the source).
