ScanMaker
=========

ScanMaker is a driver for the Microtek range of scanners.

It has been only been tested with the ScanMaker 600ZS, but should work
with any of the ScanMaker family.

It is work in progress, so any bugs, problems or other insanities, let
me know by e-mail to alastair@farli.otago.ac.nz and I will try to fix
them.

How to use it.
Connected the scanner to the SCSI port of your computer, taking the
usual steps to ensure correct termination, and non-conflict of SCSI
ids.

Notes - NeXT hardware, the machine may not boot with the scanner
connected. Boot the machine with the scanner switched off, then when
you see the login window, turn it on.

Intel hardware. Make sure that the SCSI interface you have is set for
asynchronous transfers (especially the DPT 2012B), this may be done on
a target by target basis or for the whole system. If you don't the
interface tries to negotiate a sync transfer, the scanner resets the
bus, and thats it. Thanks to Mike Perka at NeXT for finding this
problem.

To Scan
Select the scan mode you want: Line Art, Grey Scale, Colour with
either a grey or colour prescan.

Press the Prescan button.

Select the area you want to scan in the prescan window by dragging out
a rectangel, resize to your hearts content using the knobs.

Select resolution, contrast, brightness, gamma and histogram settings.
Preview them if you wish. (Note that brightness and contrast are not
currently previewable cos I haven't worked out what heinous thing the
scanner does for these!)

Then press the Scan button.
If you are doing a high-resolution colour scan, go get a cup of
coffee!
