Emacs is the NeXTstep front-end to the GNU Emacs editor. It is NOT emacs itself. You must have emacs already (it is distributed with NeXTstep).

This front end has several advantages over running GNU Emacs inside a generic terminal emulator. They are:

    * The Alternate key works as a meta key.
    * The Cut and Copy menu commands send the region to the pasteboard.
    * The Paste menu command sends the pasteboard to the current buffer.
    * The Undo menu command works as expected
    * Mouse clicks are interpreted in a reasonable manner.
    * It comes with a cutesy icon.
    * Double-clicking on a document can cause Emacs to start up.

To get a tutorial on how to use GNU Emacs itself, type C-h t (Control-H, then 't') in the Emacs window.
