NXFAXSUMMARY 1.0 April 8, 1993

This shell script reads the log file of NXFax versions 1.02 and
1.03 and summarizes Fax traffic.

USAGE
       nxfaxsummary.sh [ -help | -sample ]
       nxfaxsummary.sh [ [-l] <log> ] [ -c <costs> ] [ -m {address_list} ]

By default, the script will search for a log file in the
directories "/etc/nxfax/" and "/usr/adm/nxfax/". An
alternate log file can be specified with the option -l or as
first argument to the script.

It will also look for a file called "nxfax.cost" in that
directory describing the calling costs for various times and
phone number prefixes. Invoking the script with the option
"-sample" will print a sample nxfax.cost. An extremely
detailed example is contained in nxfax.cost.detailed. An
alternate cost description file can be specified with the
option "-c <costfile>". If no readable cost description file
is found, only a summary of transmit time and average transmit
time per page is calculated.

With the option -m <address_list>, the summary is sent to the
recipients specified in address_list.

INSTALLATION

Copy the files nxfaxsummary.sh and nxfax.cost into
/etc/nxfax if you use NXFax version 1.02, or into
/usr/adm/nxfax if you use NXFax version 1.03. you need to have
superuser privileges to do this. Edit nxfax.cost as
appropriate for your site, see the instructions in
nxfax.cost.

LIMITATIONS

The cost computation does not care about the time of day a fax
was sent, even though most phone companies charge differently
outside of business hours.
