RLaunch

What it is:
Yet another dock extension. What does this on have that the others don't? Two things really, experience for me, and what might be of use to people on a network is the ability to launch an application from a remote machine and send the output to the local machine.

How to use it:
Like a floating dock. Use a control click to rearrange dock items. To use applications from a remote machine, the public window server needs to be enabled, and the proper ~/.rhosts or /etc/hosts.equiv file needs to be in place.

How it works:
As you would expect, except for running an application on a remote machine. When RLaunch starts an application on the remote machine is it actually sending a rsh command with a NXHost argument.

Warning about the App Window:
Once a RLaunch tries to launch an application on a remote machine, it gets no more information about the status of that application. In particular if the application was successful in its attempt. This will change in the next release. The other warning is cosmetic, when a application is launched, even on the local machine, the icon will show up in the bottom of the window. I would prefer not to have this happen, but if I launch without showing the tile, I do not know how to bring the newly launched application to the front. I know I am missing something very simple here, but it just has me stumped.

Warning about Remote Launches:
Be careful when setting a remote machine to start from. For this to work, the remote machines have to be running NextStep, and the proper entries must exist in either the /etc/hosts.equiv, or ~/.rhosts file. Currently the program will give you the entire list of machines from NetInfo. The next release will properly check the entries in the above two files for eligible machines.

Version 1.0:
More info from remotely running applications. Clean up the startup process. Bug fixes. Anybody want to donate a better icon?

Version 2:
Multi level, your suggestions?
