Note: ATI mach64 based boards use several RAMDAC types, video memory types ( VRAM/DRAM ), clock generator chips etc. That's why the supported mode list is dependent on individual board configuration.

Smart display modes managment

Each ATI mach64 based board has ROM-coded table which describes highest supported resolutions, color depths, refresh rates and dot clock frequency values for each individual board. ATImach64 display driver makes supported mode list depended on this table.

Advanced cunfiguration options ( Expert Inspector )

ATImach64 Display Adapter Device Driver has extended Select Mode Panel for Configure.app.
Part User includes standard Select Panel means.
Part Expert is designed for experienced users who wish to custom-tailor their card configuration for best possible performance.
	This panel is used for:
1. Changing refresh rate for current resolution/color depth 'on the fly'-
without system rebooting.
2. Tuning screen adjustments ( the screen centering, position, refresh rate and line frequency on one mode, keeping all other modes unchanged ). Display modes may be configured to use the best resolution and refresh rate your monitor can support.
3. Changing current mode ( resolution, color depth and refresh rate ) via WindowServer only rebooting ( 'exit' command in Login Panel ).

Installing the Device Driver

1.	If you received the ATImach64.pkg file via NeXTmailX or another electronic source, place a copy of the file in a location where you can access it when you log in as root.
2.	Log in as root.
Only the superuser, root, can install the updated device driver. If you're not sure how to log in as root, see your system administrator.
3.	If you received the ATImach64.pkg file on a floppy disk, insert the disk in the floppy disk drive and choose Check for Disks from the Workspace ManagerX application's Disk menu. When the disk icon appears in the File Viewer, double-click it to open it.
4.	Double-click the ATImach64.pkg file.
5.	Click the Install button in the Installer package window. When the panel asks you to confirm that you want to install software for Intel-based computers, click Install.
6.	When the installation is complete, choose Quit from the Installer menu.
7.	Start up the Configure application by double-clicking Configure.app (it's in /NextAdmin).
8.	Click the Display icon at the top of Configure's Summary window and click the Add button near the top of the window.
9. Select the ATI mach64 Display Adapter in the scrolling list in the Add Display Devices panel. Then click Add.
10.	Click Select in the Display Mode area of the Display Devices window to enter the ATI mach64 Inspector.
11. Select resolution and mode of color and after that selecting the refresh rate appropriate for your adapter and display.
12. Then click OK.
13.	Choose Save from the Configure's Configuration menu and then choose Quit.
14.	If you created a copy of the ATImach64.pkg file in step 1, drag the copy to the recycler.
15.	If installation was made while in standard VGA display mode, choose Log Out from the Workspace menu, enter 'exit' in Login Panel and press Enter button for WindowServer restart.
If installation was made while in non-VGA display mode, choose Log Out from the Workspace menu and then click the Restart button in the Login window.
