HodgePodge Purpose: A cellular automaton, described in Scientific American May 1985, involving the deterioration and curing of the health of a two-dimensional array of cells. Hardware: Compiled and tested on a '040 ColorStation. The algorithm performs best on 16-bit per pixel frame buffers, when the display window is small. The display rate there of 25 The fun part of this simulation is to explore the variable space, and see how many different modes you can discover -- I know of 4 or 5 distinct ones. Sometimes, the same settings can support multiple stable modes. Pick up a copy of The Magic Machine, by A. K. Dewdney for more details. Enjoy Allen King aking.bbn.com
