This is the README for FontExplorer.1.0.N.b.tar.gz [Download] [Browse] [Up]
The FontExplorer is an Application for exploring fonts. ------------------------------------------------------- Especially for the professional user of unprofessional (freeware) fonts it is essential to get a fast way to decide, wether a font is usable or not. After launching the Application, just open a font. You get a 16x16 matrix of buttons labeled with all the glyphs the font contains. This is the "Font Inspector". In some fonts you will see obscure glyphs at strange Positions. In the lower area of the Font Inspector, the following information is displayed: Font Name (you allready know it) Notice (the copyright notice) Weight (you allready know it) Version Encoding scheme Italic Angle Ascender (f-height)) Descender (g-"height" {the decscender of a "g") Versal Height (H-height) Minuscule Height (x-height) Click one a glyph and you get a view with detailed infos about the specific glyph. This is the glyph inspector. It showes a big picture of the specific glyph with the following infos as graphical lines: ascender (NX_DKGRAY horizontal) descender (NX_DKGRAY horizontal) versal height (NX_DKGRAY horizontal) minuscule height (NX_DKGRAY horizontal) font bounding box (0.8 (light gray)) glyph bounding box (1 (white)) x and y axis (0 (black)) as text info: number of kerningpeers (the max of all glyphs a good estimate of the fonts quality) every kerningpeer (with kerning value) glyph name (trivial) glyph code You get two radio buttons to choose the drawing style. You may choose filled or stroked. In stroked mode you can detect some dirtiness in drawing the font while others are detected better in filled mode. This Version is a m68k-Version (it is free).
