		RDRGridView
			Version 0.1

Overview

The RDRGridView is something I thought might be marginally useful in its existing condition. This palette will be more useful if and when I ever get around to adding a "snap to" protocol to the RDRGridView.

Credits

The user path stuff in the view itself was lifted directly from the Draw app. I did the inspector design, and the actual palette part (which seemed tough when I was first learning!)

Setting the Attributes

Use the inspector panel's Color wells to assign foreground and background colors which will be used to draw the grid. You can see the effect of the changes on the mini grid contained on the inspector panel.

In addition to foreground and background colors, the grid spacing and line widths can be set. The grid spacing sliders allow you to set the spacing between the lines of the grid, both in the horizontal and vertical directions. The Line Width sliders allow you to manipulate the width of the line that will be used to draw the grid.

Enabled vs. Disabled

If you want the grid to disappear, simpley toggle the Enabled switch; then press ok.

Other palettes available from RDR include:

RDRSwitchView
The RDRSwitchView helps the developer manage off-screen views in Interface Builder that can be switched onto the screen one a time, such as in an inspector panel.

RDRGadgets
RDRGadgets is a group of three PostScript drawing primitives available on a Palette in Interface Builder with full color and transparency support. These allow you to colorize your interfaces and draw forms, badges, and other common user interfaces without needing to manipulate a .tiff or .eps image

RDRImageView
The RDRImageView allows you to add a .tiff or .eps image to your interface and resize it or manipulate it with some of the NeXT drawing operations (Sover, Copy, and Dissolve).

RDRSelector
The RDRSelector is a single-column browser object that will present a list of strings to the user and allow them to easily add, remove, and rename strings in that list. Other features include quick loading of large lists, showing one or two optional icons per line, full PasteBoard support, and a very versatile Inspector Panel.

RDRSound
The RDRSound component provides all the capabilities of the NeXT Sound Kit on a Palette. Now it is possible to add digitized sound annotation to your programs with only one or two lines of code.

All Palettes come fully documented with .rtf files in exactly the same format that you see for the appkit classes in Digital Librarian. Example code is also included.

Demo copies of the three shipping Palettes are out on the net, on cs.orst.edu and sonata.cc.purdue.edu, and are available for downloading via anonymous ftp. Or if you prefer we can e-mail demo copies to you. Demo copies are shipped without a library and with a time bomb that will render them useless after a trial period.

If you have any questions or need any help with the Palettes, don't hesitate to call me at (703) 591-8713 or send me e-mail at walters@rdr.com or info@rdr.com.

This is a free palette. Although it is unsupported, I am interested in hearing about problems you may encounter while using the palette.
