`Ever wished there was a freely distributable DBKit Adaptor? Well now there is! * What is this? dbmAdaptor is currently still the only freely distributable NEXTSTEP DBKit Adaptor and "Flat-file" database available. It enables you to use Entity/Relationship database modelling (with DBModeller) on top of the standard UNIX DBM database seamlessly with NEXTSTEP. dbmAdaptor is distributed under a ShareWare license. * Where can I get it? dbmAdaptor lives, among other places, in: ftp://ftp.cs.orst.edu/pub/next/binaries/database/dbmAdaptor-0.4.* * What will it run on? dbmAdaptor is compiled FAT for m68k, i386 & hppa. Databases are of course shareable between architectures. dbmAdaptor is distributed in binary form only, so don't ask for the source. You don't need to get any extra software in order to run dbmAdaptor (except of course an application using dbmAdaptor) everything you need is compiled into dbmAdaptor. * What is new since dbmAdaptor-0.3? - Relationships now work correctly. - All datatypes are now supported (yes, even *OBJECTS*). - Improved documentation. * What are its known limitations? - As of yet it doesn't do SQL, at all, except '=', if you call that SQL. But it might support more in the future... - It doesn't include multiuser support. But it might in the future... - There is currently no network licensing scheme. But it might in the future... - Documentation is not exhaustive. * What does it cost? After the 90 day trial period a single license costs 250 SEK (~$30). Check the license agreement before registering. Registering also removes the annoying registration panel, and enables e-mail support. Mike Henry mike@stacken.kth.se
