O'Browser 2.0 written by John Coppinger Whetstone Software 329 Lakeshore Drive Lexington, KY 40502-2419 (606) 269-0784 This is the second version of O'Browser - a tool for browsing and editing NeXTSTEP applications. It allows you to view the various sections (NIBs, TIFFs etc.) and extract them into separate files. Here are the new features in Version 2.0: · Multiple application windows - browse several executables at once · Saving - changes to sections can be saved into the original application or a new application can be created with the edits included. · Inspector - shows TIFF and EPS sections, plays SND sections and shows detailed information about the executable, its segments and its sections Here is the text of the O'Browser Help panel. It gives more details about program usage. Opening Applications To browse an application's segments, click Open..., or Command-o, then select an application from the Open panel. For applications that have app wrappers (.app), the executable is inside the .app directory. The file segments are brought up in a new window. Several windows can be opened at a time, one for each application. Application Browsers Each window has a browser for viewing the various sections of an application. Sections of the application can be selected by clicking on their names in right browser column. They can also be opened for editing by double-click on their names. File Wells Each window also has a "file well". The file well contains icons representing the selected parts of the executable file. For example, if you select an image from the "TIFF" segment, then a TIFF icon shows up in the file well. These icons can be dragged out of the well into a Workspace folder or some other application that accepts drag & drop icons. The file well icons can also be double-clicked to open the files they represent in a suitable application for editing them. Saving Editing Sections If you have opened some application sections and editing them in another application, such as changing a NIB section using Interface Builder, you can save the changes back into the application using File>SaveAs..., or Command-S. You can save the changes into a new application by changing the name shown at the bottom of the Save panel, or you can save over the original application. If you do so, OBrowser will prompt you first to keep you from clobber your original application. Inspecting Sections OBrowser also has an panel for inspecting. Selecting Inspector... on the menu pops up a panel for viewing images, playing sounds, or examining the information about a segment or section.
