NetsurferTM 2.0 RC2 (Netkit 1.0 RC2) (note: this pre-release version expires and will no longer function after September 30, 1996) What's New in RC2: Enhancements · Much improved table layout performance. · No more "tunneling" in nested frames. Known Problems in This Release · There is still a minor table layout bug. · FTP via HTTP proxy is not supported in this release. · Gopher is not functional in this release. · When printing pages containing background images, there is currently no way to suppress printing of the background. NetsurferTM 2.0 RC1 (Netkit 1.0 RC1) (note: this pre-release version expires and will no longer function after September 30, 1996) What's New in RC1: Enhancements · You can now paste images into the Resource Index from the pasteboard to assign URL icons. This makes it much easier to use applications such as Grab.app to clip images and create URL icons. · You can now search HTML pages using the Find facility. You can also use find to search the Resource Index for items containing a specified string of text in the title or URL. · Animated GIF images are now fully supported. · The online help is now updated to match the 2.0 feature set. This panel allows extensive debugging information from Netkit to be output to the system console. · If Netsurfer terminates unexpectedly, the next launch of the application will take longer than normal while the local cache is validated. · This release will work with the SSL.bundle Netkit Secure Sockets Layer plug-in . SSL URL's are now handled properly. What's New in PR3: Enhancements · HTML rendering performance is improved. · Animated GIF images are now partially supported. · SOCKS firewall support is now no longer built-in. There is now a SOCKS.bundle Netkit plug-in available that enables SOCKS support for environments requiring the use of SOCKS with Netkit based applications. · When activating an FTP Browser window that has become disconnected, Netsurfer will now automatically reconnect the session and display the directory that was last viewed. · Printing is now functional in the PDF (Acrobat) viewer plug-in. · Netkit based applications can now disable all applet execution capabilities for maximum security. All supported applet programming languages can be disabled by setting the Netkit (or application 'Netsurfer') default setting DisableAllApplets to the value 'YES'. Future releases will support disabling of applets by language type as well as restricting execution of applets to those served from trusted sites. · The Tools->Compact Cache (cmd-k) menu item will compact the HTTP persistent disk cache to one half of its current size. Repeatedly compacting the cache will cause the size of the cache to continue to shrink. With large sized caches, this process can take several seconds. What's New in PR1: Enhancements · This release of Netsurfer is based on NetkitTM. It contains many new features including: · Fast incremental display of HTML and images. · Client-side persistent caching. · HTML level 3 support (including Tables and Netscape "Frames"). · Client-side image maps. · Support for Netkit Plug-In bundles (QuickTime Video, RTF[D], and PDF document viewer support bundles are included in this pre-release). · Support for dynamic applets using Objective-C, Objective-TCL, and Objective-Perl languages (visit http://www.tiptop.com for more information about Objective-TCL, and Objective-Perl). · The Open URL panel now contains a history popup button, and accepts dragged text and URL objects. · The right mouse button now provides extended functionality when viewing HTML documents (especially useful when viewing documents containing "Frames").
