OlafAM
a programmable Voice/Fax/Data machine
for Computers running NextStep and selected Modems
This release 1.0.6 is an update version of the release 1.0.4
These are the most important improvements:
· The fax printer, dialer and call archive can now be used public.
· You can manage roles for use in a network.
· You can configure a page header for outgoing faxes.
· The call archive can be sorted for any item.
· Some more modems will work together with this version.
· Lines without a dial tone can now be handled.
· Caller ID detection can now be handled (interesting may be only for US people).
· Command line faxing.
· You can execute a command in the background by adding '&' to an exec command
in the AML program.
What is OlafAM ?
----------------
You can:
telephone like before. OlafAM.app can dial for you.
configure the behavior of the answering machine for your own purpose.
You can play messages, reading digits entered by the caller, and invoke
actions depending on the results of this input.
You are able to listen to recorded voices from a remote place, and you
can leave a message for friends.
You are able to build a "Fax On Demand" machine.
Received calls can be delivered to your mailbox, and a simple doubleClick
will play it.

This means, that you can fax everything you can print.

Received faxes can be delivered to your mailbox, and a simple doubleClick
will display it.
receive data calls
Everybody can dial into your computer, if this feature is enabled.

Use PPP, uucp or other programs to call out into the wide world of data
communications.
Requirements
------------
This software is built with white NS3.3 and tested on white, black ('040) and yellow
NS3.3. It will probably also run on green computers and on computers running OpenSTEP 4.x.
Following modems work more or less together with this software:
ZyXEL U1496 serie (voice/fax/data modem)
ZyXEL E2864 serie (voice/fax/data modem)
ZyXEL Omni288 serie (voice/fax/data modem)
Creatix SG 2834 turbo (voice/fax/data modem)
Creatix SG 2834 (fax/data modem)
Trust (fax/data modem)
GVC (fax/data modem)
BocaModem (fax/data modem)
ELSA MicroLink 28.8TQV (voice/fax/data modem)
USR Sportster (voice/fax/data modem)
Other modems including a ROCKWELL chipset will probably also work.
Modems only supporting Class2.0 Fax should also work.
People who help me to support a modem, which does not work together with this
software, will get a free permanent licence.
Use
---
If no licence string is entered, this package will run in demo mode. That means:
· Incoming voices are limited to 4 seconds.
· Regarding digits entered by caller disabled.
· Incoming faxes are disabled.
· Outgoing faxes are limited to 1 page.
· Incoming data calls are limited to 1 minute.
You can order a licence for 10 days for free, which enables all functions.
You can order a permanent licence for each feature, either voice or fax or data
with following prices:

This version will be free for owners of a valid licence for previous
versions.
Answering machine programs
--------------------------
Answering Machine programs will be written in the language
"AnsweringMachineLanguage" (AML).
It is simple and sufficient for (nearly) all cases, i can imagine.
You can have as many programs as you like.
So you are able to configure your telephone today as a private machine and
tomorrow as a fax-on-demand machine.
The most important improvements of release 1.0.4:
· Some more modems will work together with this version.
· German and (almost) French localization.
· A Fax reader similar to the Voice reader (or listener).
· Incoming data calls should be handled with more gracefulness.
· Addressbook implementation now cooporates with the WorkSpace.
· Addressbook and Dial Logbook can be printed.
· Incoming voice calls can be listened without be logged in
(if you have a D/V button like ZyXEL modems).
· ZyXEL's voice format ADPCM4 can now be used (but does it improve the voice quality?).
· The field "eMail" in the addressbook can now be used to compose a mail.
