This is the README for Talker Version 1.04 for NeXTSTEP 3.3 Intel and m68k FAT

Talker1.04 is an upgrade to Talker1.02, now with audio notification and a
few features and bug fixes. It replaces the 1.02 version completely.

"C'mon, please talk to me" (Peter Gabriel)

What does this program do? It installs itself as a shell and waits for incoming
talk requests. If a request is coming in it will pop up a window telling you who
is trying to call you and starts a talk connection to the remote user if you
click in this notification window.

Thus it allows you to get talk requests even if you do not run Terminal.app and
if your run a lot of open shells to find the source of the talk request very
fast.

To get things going you should enter 'mesg n' in your UNIX Shell dot
startup scripts like .cshrc or .zshrc, so Talker is the only one who can
respond to talk connections. Talker needs SUID root rights to write to
/etc/utmp:

	chown root Talker.app/Talker
	chmod 4755 Talker.app/Talker

(as root) should provide this. Talker will become visible when you use the
'who' command, it will claim it is you logged in from a host called 'talk2me',
this is a sign everything is working fine.

This program is freeware. You may copy and use this program freely for any
purpose but you should not sell it or include it in products sold for profit.
In case you like it feel free to send me a matchbox as here is someone who is
collecting these things especially those from far away countries.
