About The Application

Description and Goals

Encircle is a NeXT/OpenStep based Internet Relay Chat (IRC) client. This IRC client was inspired by the lack of one for the NeXTStep user environment. While designing this software the _mIRC_, Japanese IRC.app, and ircII were used as examples and inspirations. What I really learned from these applications was how an un-intuitive user interface can interfere with using IRC. Therefore my goal for this application is:

Provide a versatile and intuitive internet relay chat application that allows the user to easily and proficiently express ideas and feelings without interface interference.

This brings me to a controversial aspect of my application and NeXTStep applications in general. I am not going to support ircII "/" commands, rather I will provide other intuitive means to perform the same tasks taking advantage of the interface elements provided.

Any questions or comments about Encircle should be sent to the Encircle mailing list at _encircle@umich.edu_ or directly to _premise@engin.umich.edu_
