From: tsengel@immd9.informatik.uni-erlangen.de (Thomas Engel) Newsgroups: comp.sys.next.bugs Subject: IB 4.2pre buggy in class parsing Date: 1 Jul 1997 09:11:02 GMT Organization: Cambridge Technology Partners, Inc. Message-ID: <5pahj6$8tp$1@concorde.ctp.com> Hi, just to save you some serious head-scratching when working with IB. Beware on _reparsing_ a known class it does _not_ check its superclass. this means that if the superclass has changed and you are not aware of it..then Ib will produce some strange results like not recognizing certain methods (basically it seems to refuse to accept all methods and ivars which have not been at the initial parse) The solution is to delete the class reference (and all available instances) and then recreate it again. IB could be a lot smart..like poping up a alert, resorting your hierachy automatically if it can match the existing action/outlet connections etc. pp. I does not so take care. Aloha Tomi P.S. If BugNext.app wouldn't crash I might be able to submit that bug properly...NeXT (er..Apple) why is it so hard to provide a working BugNeXT.app via NextAswners ? It would save _you_ a lot of work since you would receive properly clasified and categoriced bug reports.

BUENA SUERTE!!! -- MIGUEL

No necessary: you can rename your class, import the new one, change class and delete the old one, so you don't loose you connections (I guess it is because of this workaround that this bug is no _so_ hard) > IB could be a lot smart..like poping up a alert, resorting your hierachy > automatically if it can match the existing action/outlet connections etc. pp. Well, there are plenty of areas where IB could be more smart :-) > I does not so take care. > > > Aloha > Tomi > > P.S. Message-ID: <5pod48$47k$823@roadrunner.miracle.net> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit We are a New York based international photo agency representing professional and amateur photographers in search of having their work promoted in order to conduct their profession or hobby minus the time consuming inconvenience of presenting and selling their own work. You do not have to be a professional photographer to sell your photographic work successfully, and as any pro will tell you, quite often throughout history an amateur stumbles on a scene that he or she photographs and ends up with a photo that becomes a classic. Those who publish magazines, books, newspapers, greeting cards, record albums, or just about anyone who works with images in their profession, are in desperate need of fresh material, and are more than willing to review photos submitted by professional photo representatives. Sometimes the photos of amateurs are sought after more so than professionals because of accidental originality and innovative themes. At Photo Phoenix International, we delight in and value the work of people who view photography as a fine art and understand a photo representative's significance in terms of a photographer's career, reputation, and monetary gain. The photos we are seeking are some of the following: ANIMALS, ARCHITECTURE, ART, AUTOMOBILES, BUSINESS, CELEBRITIES, DOCUMENTARY, ENTERTAINMENT, EROTICA/NUDITY, FASHION, FOOD, HEALTH, HISTORY, HOBBIES, OUTDOORS, PEOPLE, POLITICAL, PORTRAITS, STILL LIFES, RELIGIOUS, SCIENCE, SPORTS, TRAVEL . . . Whether your work portrays conservative, experimental, stylish, or innovative themes, your project proposal should be well thought out before submitting to us. For first contact, submit a query letter and "SAMPLES ONLY" of your photos. You must include "2" self addressed, stamped envelopes--one for correspondence, the other for the return of your material should we not be interested. If we think your work is sellable, we will respond as soon as possible. Do not send entire portfolio unless we ask for it. This behavior is ok since you can check for alternatives at a given position...but its behavior is _not_ made as clear as it should have been. Most people (including me) get a wrong impression of what the method is supposed to do. (IMHO Documentation BUG) 2. scanUpToString:intoString is the method that does what you expect from scanString. It performs the search. But this guy has another bug..which is even harder to find. If the string that you are scanning for starts at index 0...then the scanUpTo will fail which it should not. Aloha Tomi P.S. This has been experienced on OS/Mach-Intel 4.2.pre

I found a section (Chapter 11 of the System Administrator's Manual: Mixed Networks) in the on-line documentation (NS 3.3 was pre-installed and appears to be slightly incomplete) which explains that AppleTalk connectivity is a simple matter of activating a single check box beneath an apple icon in the preferences app. Problem #1: there is no apple icon in my preferences app. Does this mean that something was not installed, or merely that I've not set the computer up correctly? Connecting NeXT black hardware to UNIX machines should, according to the documentation, be similarly straightforward. Neither the NeXT nor the SGI will acknowledge the physical existence of a 10BaseT network connection. Problem #2: The machines are all physically connected through a DaynaStar 10BaseT hub, but the Macs are the only ones talking. I would appreciate any suggestions!

This feature was only existent in NS 3.0. It was sightly buggy and was discontinued lateron. EtherTalk client and server (!) capabilities can be achieved by means of CAPer. It is on the ususal archives. > Problem #1: there is no apple icon in my preferences app. Does this > mean that something was not installed, or merely that I've not set the > computer up correctly? > See above. > Connecting NeXT black hardware to UNIX machines should, according to the > documentation, be similarly straightforward. Neither the NeXT nor the > SGI will acknowledge the physical existence of a 10BaseT network > connection. > Forgive me, but I doubt you'd recognize the acknowlwedgement of a physical network connection even if it sprang into your face :-) On a NeXT machine it is probably only a single line on the verbose boot log and even there it might only list a cryptic physical device code. If you haven't configured the machine to be part of a network the corresponding parts of the system software won't even bother to look for a physical connection. NEXTSTEP will only enable the local connection, the network connection will be ignored. Possibly it might be better to start with a new installation. But if you're determined to make the existing system recognize the network, run SimpleNetworkStarter.app and configure the system to be a standalone machine. Then use HostManager.app to enter the network information of the other machines on your network. Alternatively enter your DNS server information in the right place. In case that SNS isn't able to reliably change the network settings (as it usually does if the network has been manually altered) you could print out the diagnostics and use NetInfoManager.app to set things manually. But that needs some deeper understanding. Possibly a new installation or, at least, a resetting of the customization should be considered. You can achieve this by copying the files in /usr/template/client/etc/hostinfo and /usr/template/client/etc/netinfo to /etc. You might want to save the previous files since you'll loose allmost all customizsation done before. You can start the network now using SNS and HM like described above. > Problem #2: The machines are all physically connected through a > DaynaStar 10BaseT hub, but the Macs are the only ones talking. > Is the hub seeing the other machines as connected or not? And there is still the possibility of a cabling problem... I can't speek for the Silicon Graphics machine but the NEXTSTEP system is quiet unless you tell her explicitly to take up network connections. I've run into what seems like a major bug. In trying to "Create Work Directory" under OS 4.2/mach, Project builder converts all pathnames I enter under the field "Project's Local Work Directory" and makes them into Windoze style paths, by making the substitution "/ -> \". It actually checks out a directory at root with a name such as \joes\garage when I give it /joes/garage, but then, in the last phase of creating this work directory, it bombs because it goes back and looks for the original /joes/garage to make some modifications, which was never created in the first place! I haven't yet found a way around this, and it seemingly makes the SCM on PB for Mach useless. Has anyone else seen this? I came accross another problem, trying to set the CVSROOT variable for cvs (as described in the manual) to use under ProjectBuilder. I have tried all the startup scripts for users and root. I do not seem to be able to set this environment variable for any application, as applications are run by the workspace, which is run by the loginWindow and has never used a shell on the way. I have installed Prelude to Rhapsody on a Jaz disk while keeping OS3.3 on my SCSI disk. When booted under 4.2 I tried changing the name of a file by overtyping the name within File Viewer. Seemed fair enough to me. What happened was that periodically (like about every 3 seconds) the entire text of the name would be selected automatically. So if I kept typing the name of my file the name would start again from where I was upto and start the timer again. I could type one letter and wait for the auto-selection and then use the mouse to deselect the text and then type again until I get the auto-selection and so on. This has become tiresome. The only way to change filenames that I cannot type within the prescribed timeperiod is to open an Edit window, type the name, select it, copy it and paste it into the text field for the filename. I had assumed this to be a bug in 4.2 prerelease 2 that woudl be fixed in the gold release so I grinned and bore it. I have other things to chase with 4.2 and need not bother with this. The thing that was interesting is that the EXACT same problem has occurred when changing the name of a file under OS3.3 with the NS4.2 Jaz disk mounted as an ordinary drive. A quick test and the problem does not show itself with OS3.3 JAZ disk. I just tried to recreate the problem with the OS4.2 disk under OS3.3 and nothing. So the problem is flaky under OS3.3 but always present under NS4.2. Any suggestions or insights would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Greg Shaw.

From: a12@a.a Subject: $$$$ LOAN BUSINESS, EASY MONTHLY INCOME, NO BRAINER $$$$ Newsgroups: comp.sys.next.bugs Organization: 20 Message-ID: <33c92481.0@news.unibe.ch> Date: 13 Jul 97 18:54:57 GMT I have participated in the standard "Please put me on your mailing list" letter and found it to be worth my time (I get 1 or 2 handfulls or letters every day) but I also found that it's results were nowhere near what I expected due mainly to people not sending in the money but rather spreading the letter without paying for it. I participated in that mainly as an experiment and found that there are a tremendous amount of people willing to do it. I thought about how to, first, eliminate the "non-pay" problem and, second, to create a monthly income. I came upon the solution and decided to start a new program. I decided that there were 3 things that this new program needed in order to work for everyone and they were: 1.) It needed to be very simple and easy for anyone to do, and, 2.) It needed to be inexpensive enough for even the poorest of people, and, 3.) It needs to be DUPLICATABLE. I think you will find this program to meet those requirements. I have put lots of thought into it and I ask that you PLEASE do NOT modify it. This WILL WORK if you follow it. This system is based on the unconditional "loaning" of money to people. Simply say, "I am loaning you this $2 as an act of goodwill to help you in your financial need, you may pay me back if and when you can." You should find 5 or more people who will send $2 to the 5 needy people on this list AND MAINTAIN 5 or more people who will do the same. You should put your name on postition number 5 and move each of the other names up one position. The name originally on position number 1 gets removed. You should be able to contact each of your 5 or more people to see if they are going to be active this month. If not then you need to find one or more people to be active in order to maintain at least 5. I am not speaking about the 5 people on the list but rather the 5 new people you have found. I would highly suggest having more than 5 in any given month. Now I know that this would be extremely easy to do since I can think of at least 20 people myself who will do this consistently. The key is to maintain at LEAST 5 active people. If you don't then you can't expect for the rest of the people to do it either and you can't expect for this system to work. This system is a no-brainer, and if someone can't afford the $10 + stamps for this then they truly ARE in need! From: a10@a.a Subject: $$ NEW SYSTEM, BETTER THAN "ADD ME TO YOUR MAILING LIST" $ Newsgroups: comp.sys.next.bugs Organization: 11 Message-ID: <33c92473.0@news.unibe.ch> Date: 13 Jul 97 18:54:43 GMT I have participated in the standard "Please put me on your mailing list" letter and found it to be worth my time (I get 1 or 2 handfulls or letters every day) but I also found that it's results were nowhere near what I expected due mainly to people not sending in the money but rather spreading the letter without paying for it. It is OK to use the internet to find people but I think it would be easier to find them through people that you know. This way it will be easier for you to contact them every month to ask about their being active, unless someone is willing to give you their e-mail address. Message-ID: <5qdffh$p2o$1@concorde.ctp.com> Hi, I am not sure if that is a regular behavior but I consider it a serious bug in gcc. Given a .m source file which start like this: a/************************************************************************* * File Name: FBAWizzardDeleteItem.m [...deltete for posting...] *************************************************************************/ #import "FBAWizzardDeleteItem.h" Please notice the single "a" char in the first place which got there by accident. Now the really funny thing is this error warning which comes straight out of PB's console: FBAWizzardDeleteItem.m /NextLibrary/Frameworks/AppKit.framework/Headers/AppKit.h:20: illegal external declaration, missing `;' after `MiscSwapView.subproj/MiscSwapViewItem.h' gnumake[1]: *** [/private/Net/grappa/Users/tsengel/Developer/Henkel/FactBook/Applications/FBA uthor/obj-i386-debug/FBAWizzardDeleteItem.o] Error 1 gnumake: *** [debug] Error 2 It complains about AppKit.h which gets included by my MiscSwapViewItem.h file which gets include by my current classes superclass. This is really stupid and totally wierd. I luckily found that single char after 10 minutes so it didn't cost me an entire day to track that wierd behavior down. this might be related to the faact that firt all imports are performed and then the resulting source is evaluated...but then...there is no excuste why gcc does not complain about the "a" but instead complains about totally correct code. When OS is running I do not think it uses the PC's BIOS to access disks. The only limitation I am aware of is that no individual OS file system can be larger that 2.0 Gb. If your SCSI disk is old, it may not implement the mode sense command. > ... I tried to install onto a new > Jaz disk (is this even possible?) and I ran into the same limitation. It > looks like a driver problem to me, any suggestions? I have successfully installed OS on a Jaz cartridge, but I did it by running BuildDisk on a system that was already up and running OS. Jaz disks do not handle SCSI mode sense commands, so OS doesn't know the disk geometry unless you supply a disktab entry. If you do not have a running OS system available to you, building a Jaz cartridge may be difficult. The mode sense problem and other Jaz disk strangeness is covered in a NextAnswer on the Next web site. For now, here's the disktab I use -- it handles Jaz drives with two different firmware numbers, J^77 and 1.83. It's just the NextAnswer's Jaz disktab with a couple of name aliases added. I've confirmed this error in both NeXT's 3.3 version (cc-437.2.6, gcc version 2.5.8) and in gcc-2.7.2.1 for the m68k. Although the 2.7.2.1 gave a: a.m:9: parse error at end of input ...error instead. It looks like the limitation is the OPENSTEP Partition must start in the first 2GB. you can use fdiisk from DOS or the fdisk integrated in the installation procedure to setup a partition, or simply install on the complete disk. the installation then will create multiple UNIX partitions smaller than 2GB. I found the behavior you describe when I was playing with the configuration of the parallel port. Using the port as EPP is OK but using it as ECP (with it's additional interrupt) is not supported and the interrupt seems to cause the strange text selection oddness. By your description maybe you have another hardware related problem, if it is not the parallel port maybe your SCSI configuration has trouble somewhere (like no termination on both sides of the chain.) Whenever someone dials in and your server accepts the call, the system freezes and must be switched off. This does not happen when we dial out, only when someone dials in. Maybe it's a problem of the serial port driver? At least NS 3.3 had lot's of problems with it. Greetings -- # Constantin Szallies, Energotec GmbH # szallies@energotec.de # 49211-9144018

We feel we have least restrictions and the best incentives on the net. We provide services and you get commissions. This is NOT a program where we take money from you! There is no "financial investment" required to become a reseller of our 123 easy Web promotion service. The Gideon Reseller program was created so that we can help even more companies and organizations benefit from our services while helping individuals become financially independent. This program was designed for anyone with access to the Internet. Those with sales experience, motivation, and/or good working knowledge of the Internet will find this program to be more financially rewarding. This is also a perfect opportunity for Web designers & Resellers, Internet Service Providers(ISPs) and Internet Presence Providers(IPPs) who wish to offer their clients the best service to promote their Web pages. Reseller could be either company or individual. How does the Reseller program work? The reseller's main responsibility is selling Gideon's 123 Easy Web Promotion Service. We take care of everything else. The reseller does not have to be bothered with handling technical questions. If the customer has questions they can contact us. We handle all the billing for customers. At the beginning of each month, we send out commission checks to the resellers. Reseller Compensation Gideon Associates Inc. credits monthly statement of the reseller's CONTACT account. The sales commission percentage is 25% on each service sold, not intitial set-up fees. For example, if you sell a site with 10 URLs submission, the price will be $449.50. Your income will be $112.38. The site provides an informal collection of pointers, references, and starting points for developers who are using the Prelude to Rhapsody bundle, distributed at this year's Worldwide Developer Conference. OpenStep/NEXTSTEP/Rhapsody Related Usenet Newsgroups ==================================================== COMP.SYS.NEXT.ADVOCACY This is the "why NEXTSTEP is better (or worse) than anything else in the known universe" forum. It was created specifically to divert lengthy flame wars from .misc. COMP.SYS.NEXT.ANNOUNCE Announcements of general interest to the NeXT community (new products, FTP submissions, user group meetings, commercial announcements etc.) This is a moderated newsgroup, meaning that you can't post to it directly. Submissions should be e-mailed to next-announce@digifix.com where the moderator (Scott Anguish) will screen them for suitability. Messages posted to announce should NOT be posted or crossposted to any other comp.sys.next groups. COMP.SYS.NEXT.BUGS A place to report verifiable bugs in NeXT-supplied software. Material e-mailed to Bug_NeXT@NeXT.COM is not published, so this is a place for the net community find out about problems when they're discovered. This newsgroup has a very poor signal/noise ratio--all too often bozos post stuff here that really belongs someplace else. It rarely makes sense to crosspost between this and other c.s.n.* newsgroups, but individual reports may be germane to certain non-NeXT-specific groups as well. COMP.SYS.NEXT.HARDWARE Discussions about NeXT-label hardware and compatible peripherals, and non-NeXT-produced hardware (e.g. Intel) that is compatible with NEXTSTEP. In most cases, questions about Intel hardware are better asked in comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware. Questions about SCSI devices belong in comp.periphs.scsi. This isn't the place to buy or sell used NeXTs--that's what .marketplace is for. COMP.SYS.NEXT.MARKETPLACE NeXT stuff for sale/wanted. Material posted here must not be crossposted to any other c.s.n.* newsgroup, but may be crossposted to misc.forsale.computers.workstation or appropriate regional newsgroups. COMP.SYS.NEXT.MISC For stuff that doesn't fit anywhere else. Anything you post here by definition doesn't belong anywhere else in c.s.n.*--i.e. no crossposting!!! COMP.SYS.NEXT.PROGRAMMER Questions and discussions of interest to NEXTSTEP programmers. This is primarily a forum for advanced technical material. Generic UNIX questions belong elsewhere (comp.unix.questions), although specific questions about NeXT's implementation or porting issues are appropriate here. Note that there are several other more "horizontal" newsgroups (comp.lang.objective-c, comp.lang.postscript, comp.os.mach, comp.protocols.tcp-ip, etc.) that may also be of interest. COMP.SYS.NEXT.SOFTWARE This is a place to talk about [third party] software products that run on NEXTSTEP systems. COMP.SYS.NEXT.SYSADMIN Stuff relating to NeXT system administration issues; in rare cases this will spill over into .programmer or .software. ** RELATED NEWSGROUPS ** COMP.SOFT-SYS.NEXTSTEP Like comp.sys.next.software and comp.sys.next.misc combined. Exists because NeXT is a software-only company now, and comp.soft-sys is for discussion of software systems with scope similar to NEXTSTEP. COMP.LANG.OBJECTIVE-C Technical talk about the Objective-C language. Implemetations discussed include NeXT, Gnu, Stepstone, etc. COMP.OBJECT Technical talk about OOP in general. Lots of C++ discussion, but NeXT and Objective-C get quite a bit of attention. At times gets almost philosophical about objects, but then again OOP allows one to be a programmer/philosopher. (The original comp.sys.next no longer exists--do not attempt to post to it.) Exception to the crossposting restrictions: announcements of usenet RFDs or CFVs, when made by the news.announce.newgroups moderator, may be simultaneously crossposted to all c.s.n.* newsgroups. Getting the Newsgroups without getting News =========================================== Thanks to Michael Ross at antigone.com, the main NEXTSTEP groups are now available as a mailing list digest as well. next-nextstep next-advocacy next-announce next-bugs next-hardware next-marketplace next-misc next-programmer next-software next-sysadmin object lang-objective-c (For a full description, send mail to listserv@antigone.com). This system allows you to request online technical documents, drivers, and other software, which are then sent to you automatically. You can request documents by fax or Internet electronic mail, read them on the world-wide web, transfer them by anonymous ftp, or download them from the BBS. NeXTanswers is an automated retrieval system. Requests sent to it are answered electronically, and are not read or handled by a human being. NeXTanswers does not answer your questions or forward your requests. USING NEXTANSWERS BY E-MAIL To use NeXTanswers by Internet e-mail, send requests to nextanswers@next.com. Files are sent as NeXTmail attachments by default; you can request they be sent as ASCII text files instead. To request a file, include that file's ID number in the Subject line or the body of the message. You can request several files in a single message. You can also include commands in the Subject line or the body of the message. These commands affect the way that files you request are sent: ASCII causes the requested files to be sent as ASCII text SPLIT splits large files into 95KB chunks, using the MIME Message/Partial specification REPLY-TO address sets the e-mail address NeXTanswers uses These commands return information about the NeXTanswers system: HELP returns this help file INDEX returns the list of all available files INDEX BY DATE returns the list of files, sorted newest to oldest SEARCH keywords lists all files that contain all the keywords you list (ignoring capitalization) For example, a message with the following Subject line requests three files: Subject: 2101 2234 1109 A message with this body requests the same three files be sent as ASCII text files: 2101 2234 1109 ascii This message requests two lists of files, one for each search: Subject: SEARCH Dell SCSI SEARCH NetInfo domain NeXTanswers will reply to the address in your From: line. To use a different address either set your Reply-To: line, or use the NeXTanswers command REPLY-TO If you have any problem with the system or suggestions for improvement, please send mail to nextanswers-request@next.com. USING NEXTANSWERS BY FAX To use NeXTanswers by fax, call (415) 780-3990 from a touch-tone phone and follow the instructions. You'll be asked for your fax number, a number to identify your fax (like your phone extension or office number), and the ID numbers of the files you want. You can also request a list of available files. When you finish entering the file numbers, end the call and the files will be faxed to you. If you have problems using this fax system, please call Technical Support at 1-800-848-6398. You cannot use the fax system outside the U.S & Canada. USING NEXTANSWERS VIA THE WORLD-WIDE WEB To use NeXTanswers via the Internet World-Wide Web connect to NeXT's web server at URL http://www.next.com. USING NEXTANSWERS BY ANONYMOUS FTP To use NeXTanswers by Internet anonymous FTP, connect to FTP.NEXT.COM and read the help file pub/NeXTanswers/README. If you have problems using this, please send mail to nextanswers-request@next.com. USING NEXTANSWERS BY MODEM To use NeXTanswers via modem call the NeXTanswers BBS at (415) 780-2965. Log in as the user "guest", and enter the Files section. From there you can download NeXTanswers documents. FOR MORE HELP... If you need technical support for NEXTSTEP beyond the information available from NeXTanswers, call the Support Hotline at 1-800-955-NeXT (outside the U.S. call +1-415-424-8500) to speak to a NEXTSTEP Technical Support Technician. If your site has a NeXT support contract, your site's support contact must make this call to the hotline. Otherwise, hotline support is on a pay-per-call basis. I dislike Helvetica (sorry whoever) and prefer to use Times-Roman as my system font. However, several panels, etc do not seem to use any other font besides Helvetica. One example is the Mailboxes panel, the buttons there are Helvetica. The large buttons on top of Active.mbox also do not change.... It would be nice if someone went through and checked at least the apps which NeXT supplies that they behave properly. TjL

Milleniums. It's mostly a hardware problem, so you should exchange the video card. I say mostly because it's also somewhat heat and driver related; The first 2 were fine under Windows but would exhibit the problem under NS after the system warmed up. The third one was fine under NS but would exhibit the problem under Windows at the same resolution and frequency. I still have this card but it has been completely problem free since updating the Matrox bios and Windows drivers to whatever the latest versions were as of 1.5 years ago. Anyway, it was clearly a video hardware problem because the symptoms were slightly different with each card using the same hardware and software. I believe it's related to marginal WRAM. > Matrox Millennium with 2+6 MB of RAM; 220 MHz RAMDAC; >Pentium 100 MHz >ASUS board, Triton chipset >Symbios Logic 53c810 SCSI adapter Coincidentally, this is exactly what I have, except I never upgraded my 2 meg card. cheers, -sam

[snip] I have a Symbios S8150 running a 3.2GB Quantum disk here (basically a 8100/SC-200 with built-in bios), and it works fine with a dual partition setup (linux/OS4.0). Have you used the disk on another system before? I had lots of trouble because the AHA-1542CF I used before apparently messed up the disk. I used the Linux, not the NeXT-provided disk program. Even without a proper disktab entry, OS should be able to use the disk. ---------------------------------- "Um Energie zu sparen, wird das Licht am Ende des Tunnels vorlaeufig abgeschaltet." rainer@mathematik.uni-wuerzburg.de (public key avaible at any key server near you ...)

As soon as it has to do a yp lookup, lookupd freazes almost the whole system (ie windowmanager does still work, but almost nothing else, esp no program start, no logout attemp possible, etc). ypcat works though! The problem arises eg when I have a YPAgent for hosts during startup, when I have one for users when I select a home dir of an YP user or when I do cd ~ypuser, etc. I assume the problem is cured in 4.2, but I need an immediate solution!
