The winner is Sven Droll. Stone Design will raffle software and a CD each month while supplies last. To enter the raffle, please visit our World Wide Web site: http://www.stone.com/ =*= Stone Design Corporation of Albuquerque, New Mexico, founded in 1984, develops a variety of productivity applications for Rhapsody, Java, and OpenStep. 3D Reality, DataPhile, and Create are trademarks of Stone Design Corporation. CheckSum is a trademark of Sirius Solutions. n I recommend the installer is that it puts things in a directory hierarchy that makes installation, modificaiton, and use of future versions simpler and safer. It also supports a full de-install in case you want to do that. Further, the installer contains a copy of Mark Trombino's LogOn.app. This app makes it really easy to connect to a provider. No more chat scripts!!! Unfortunately, LogOn.app will only run on OS 4.x. PPP (and the installer package) work for OS 3.2 on, but those folks using 3.x will not be able to run the LogOn.app. Please note, if you already have PPP installed and want to use the installer, read the Installation directions BEFORE proceeding. DO NOT Blindly run the installer first. Please let me know if you have any problems! Happy New Year! - Steve --- Stephen J. OpenStep/NEXTSTEP/Rhapsody Related Usenet Newsgroups ==================================================== COMP.SYS.NEXT.ADVOCACY This is the "why NEXTSTEP is better (or worse) than anything else in the known universe" forum. It was created specifically to divert lengthy flame wars from .misc. COMP.SYS.NEXT.ANNOUNCE Announcements of general interest to the NeXT community (new products, FTP submissions, user group meetings, commercial announcements etc.) This is a moderated newsgroup, meaning that you can't post to it directly. Submissions should be e-mailed to next-announce@digifix.com where the moderator (Scott Anguish) will screen them for suitability. Messages posted to announce should NOT be posted or crossposted to any other comp.sys.next groups. COMP.SYS.NEXT.BUGS A place to report verifiable bugs in NeXT-supplied software. Material e-mailed to Bug_NeXT@NeXT.COM is not published, so this is a place for the net community find out about problems when they're discovered. This newsgroup has a very poor signal/noise ratio--all too often bozos post stuff here that really belongs someplace else. It rarely makes sense to crosspost between this and other c.s.n.* newsgroups, but individual reports may be germane to certain non-NeXT-specific groups as well. COMP.SYS.NEXT.HARDWARE Discussions about NeXT-label hardware and compatible peripherals, and non-NeXT-produced hardware (e.g. Intel) that is compatible with NEXTSTEP. In most cases, questions about Intel hardware are better asked in comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware. Questions about SCSI devices belong in comp.periphs.scsi. This isn't the place to buy or sell used NeXTs--that's what .marketplace is for. COMP.SYS.NEXT.MARKETPLACE NeXT stuff for sale/wanted. Material posted here must not be crossposted to any other c.s.n.* newsgroup, but may be crossposted to misc.forsale.computers.workstation or appropriate regional newsgroups. COMP.SYS.NEXT.MISC For stuff that doesn't fit anywhere else. Anything you post here by definition doesn't belong anywhere else in c.s.n.*--i.e. no crossposting!!! COMP.SYS.NEXT.PROGRAMMER Questions and discussions of interest to NEXTSTEP programmers. This is primarily a forum for advanced technical material. Generic UNIX questions belong elsewhere (comp.unix.questions), although specific questions about NeXT's implementation or porting issues are appropriate here. Note that there are several other more "horizontal" newsgroups (comp.lang.objective-c, comp.lang.postscript, comp.os.mach, comp.protocols.tcp-ip, etc.) that may also be of interest. COMP.SYS.NEXT.SOFTWARE This is a place to talk about [third party] software products that run on NEXTSTEP systems. COMP.SYS.NEXT.SYSADMIN Stuff relating to NeXT system administration issues; in rare cases this will spill over into .programmer or .software. ** RELATED NEWSGROUPS ** COMP.SOFT-SYS.NEXTSTEP Like comp.sys.next.software and comp.sys.next.misc combined. Exists because NeXT is a software-only company now, and comp.soft-sys is for discussion of software systems with scope similar to NEXTSTEP. COMP.LANG.OBJECTIVE-C Technical talk about the Objective-C language. Implemetations discussed include NeXT, Gnu, Stepstone, etc. COMP.OBJECT Technical talk about OOP in general. Lots of C++ discussion, but NeXT and Objective-C get quite a bit of attention. At times gets almost philosophical about objects, but then again OOP allows one to be a programmer/philosopher. (The original comp.sys.next no longer exists--do not attempt to post to it.) Exception to the crossposting restrictions: announcements of usenet RFDs or CFVs, when made by the news.announce.newgroups moderator, may be simultaneously crossposted to all c.s.n.* newsgroups. This system allows you to request online technical documents, drivers, and other software, which are then sent to you automatically. You can request documents by fax or Internet electronic mail, read them on the world-wide web, transfer them by anonymous ftp, or download them from the BBS. NeXTanswers is an automated retrieval system. Requests sent to it are answered electronically, and are not read or handled by a human being. NeXTanswers does not answer your questions or forward your requests. USING NEXTANSWERS BY E-MAIL To use NeXTanswers by Internet e-mail, send requests to nextanswers@next.com. Files are sent as NeXTmail attachments by default; you can request they be sent as ASCII text files instead. To request a file, include that file's ID number in the Subject line or the body of the message. You can request several files in a single message. You can also include commands in the Subject line or the body of the message. These commands affect the way that files you request are sent: ASCII causes the requested files to be sent as ASCII text SPLIT splits large files into 95KB chunks, using the MIME Message/Partial specification REPLY-TO address sets the e-mail address NeXTanswers uses These commands return information about the NeXTanswers system: HELP returns this help file INDEX returns the list of all available files INDEX BY DATE returns the list of files, sorted newest to oldest SEARCH keywords lists all files that contain all the keywords you list (ignoring capitalization) For example, a message with the following Subject line requests three files: Subject: 2101 2234 1109 A message with this body requests the same three files be sent as ASCII text files: 2101 2234 1109 ascii This message requests two lists of files, one for each search: Subject: SEARCH Dell SCSI SEARCH NetInfo domain NeXTanswers will reply to the address in your From: line. To use a different address either set your Reply-To: line, or use the NeXTanswers command REPLY-TO If you have any problem with the system or suggestions for improvement, please send mail to nextanswers-request@next.com. USING NEXTANSWERS BY FAX To use NeXTanswers by fax, call (415) 780-3990 from a touch-tone phone and follow the instructions. You'll be asked for your fax number, a number to identify your fax (like your phone extension or office number), and the ID numbers of the files you want. You can also request a list of available files. When you finish entering the file numbers, end the call and the files will be faxed to you. If you have problems using this fax system, please call Technical Support at 1-800-848-6398. You cannot use the fax system outside the U.S & Canada. USING NEXTANSWERS VIA THE WORLD-WIDE WEB To use NeXTanswers via the Internet World-Wide Web connect to NeXT's web server at URL http://www.next.com. USING NEXTANSWERS BY ANONYMOUS FTP To use NeXTanswers by Internet anonymous FTP, connect to FTP.NEXT.COM and read the help file pub/NeXTanswers/README. If you have problems using this, please send mail to nextanswers-request@next.com. USING NEXTANSWERS BY MODEM To use NeXTanswers via modem call the NeXTanswers BBS at (415) 780-2965. Log in as the user "guest", and enter the Files section. From there you can download NeXTanswers documents. FOR MORE HELP... If you need technical support for NEXTSTEP beyond the information available from NeXTanswers, call the Support Hotline at 1-800-955-NeXT (outside the U.S. call +1-415-424-8500) to speak to a NEXTSTEP Technical Support Technician. If your site has a NeXT support contract, your site's support contact must make this call to the hotline. Otherwise, hotline support is on a pay-per-call basis. Most go out in less than 24 hours. Postings that require editing because they do not contain information in a useable format, or have already been posted to other comp.sys.next.* groups may be delayed, or returned to you. If your posting is rejected, I'll try and make suggestions about what should be changed where possible. Obviously off charter messages (spams, open-letters, etc) may not get a response. Include full instructions on contacting you (where applicable) All Postings e-mail address, telephone (optional) Press Release toll-free voice phone, toll-free fax, voice phone, fax phone mailing address,info@blahblah.com,retail price, educational price availability Software available ftp site full path to file IN URL FORMAT supported CPU's for binary distributions, OS version requirements Meeting Announcements location of meeting, time of meeting, speakers expected Signatures will be deleted automatically, so please don't rely on your .sig for the contact information Please double check all information you are posting for accuracy. If you are announcing software available by FTP, make sure the copy on the archive site is good. Announcement of Product Sales ============================= This is an area of announcement that has caused me terrible grief in the past. The policy is tilted towards the ISV, which has worked out well in the past. Posts that announce sales of products that you are DIRECTLY involved in the development of are OK. Posts from companies trying to sell other products are evaluated on an individual basis. Time Sensitive Announcements ============================ Many times an announcement should coincide with a specific date. Unfortunately, that can be the worst time for you to get access to your internet connection to send the announcements to comp.sys.next.announce. In order to make comp.sys.next.announce as timely as possible, I will accept "post-dated" announcements for release on a specific future date. All information will be kept confidential until the requested release date, and NDAs will be signed where required to ensure this. Hopefully this will make these announcements arrive at users sites as quickly as if you posted them directly to comp.sys.next.whatever. Submissions can be sent to next-announce@digifix.com. From: Pedja Bogdanovich <pedja@TipTop.COM> Newsgroups: comp.sys.next.announce Subject: PRESS RELEASE: TipTop Software to Exhibit at MacWorld San Francisco Date: 5 Jan 1998 04:29:24 GMT Organization: Digital Fix Development Message-ID: <68pnj4$k95$1@news.digifix.com> FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE TIPTOP SOFTWARE TO EXHIBIT AT MACWORLD SAN FRANCISCO Bethesda, Maryland, January 5, 1997. TipTop Software, Inc. today announced that they will be exhibiting at Macworld San Francisco in Rhapsody Row in the Developer Central area, North Hall, Booth #3080. Visitors will be able to see the amazing Objective-Everything development environment for Yellow Box and learn more about other TipTop products such as WOPerl. Objective-Everything Objective-Everything is the preeminent scripting solution for Yellow Box. It augments the Yellow Box development with the power and flexibility of the world's most popular high-level programming languages. Objective-Everything provides true language independence for the OpenStep (Yellow Box) object model. It allows you to develop programs for OpenStep without being restricted by the lack of expressiveness, class libraries, or other limitations of a particular programming language. With Objective-Everything you can use the language best suited for the task at hand, or even mix-and-match languages! Objective-Everything consists of Objective-Python, Objective-Tcl, Objective-Perl, and Objective-Browser. Objective-Everything is an invaluable development tool for anyone who develops under OpenStep, including programmers who just want to program in straight Objective-C. Objective-Everything is ideally suited for rapid application prototyping and development, application scripting, regression testing, exploratory programming, and much more. Objective-Browser Objective-Browser is a graphical tool which allows you to visualize objects and object-relations in a running program. This is a *must-have* tool for all Apple Macintosh developers getting familiar with the OpenStep development environment! The browser allows you to view live objects within a running application in many object-specific ways. OB allows you to easily investigate the structure and methods of various objects and classes. For example, class hierarchy, methods, instance variables, and other object information can be viewed and *edited* during execution. WOPerl WOPerl brings the power and flexibility of the Perl language to WebObjects from Apple Computer, Inc. while providing completely seamless interoperability with the rest of the WebObjects system. For example, in your Web applications you can transparently mix Perl, Objective-C, and WebScript-implemented web components. In WebObjects with WOPerl, you can not only reuse your C and C++ code, and use any Perl-provided functionality (e.g., use networking Perl modules, interprocess communication modules, database interface modules, text processing modules, web-related modules, OLE automation extension module on Windows NT, etc.), but you can also use all Apple-provided functionalities (e.g., PDO, DOLE, EOF), as well as functionalities from your own class libraries! The Licenser Kit gives Rhapsody developers all they need to quickly add copy protection to their programs and to generate licenses for those programs. The distribution includes a sample application that uses The Licenser Kit, and an automatic license generator program. The user interface is entirely flexible, as expected from software developers Andrew Stone of Stone Design and Stan Jirman of Caffeine Software. In use commercially for over four years, the well-tested Licenser Kit has become a de facto standard for Rhapsody and Yellow Box developers. Besides Create(TM) and TIFFany(TM), other major Rhapsody applications currently using the Licenser Kit include Anderson Financial Systems' word processing and page layout software, WriteUp(TM) and PasteUp(TM), and P&L Systems' spreadsheet, Mesa(TM). "The Licenser Kit has become the standard licensing solution for Yellow Box," said Andrew Stone, CEO of Stone Design. "It quickly and transparently plugs into any app to address the perennial financial black hole of software piracy. The Kit allows you to distribute your application on the Internet, allowing anyone to evaluate your app in demo mode, and then unlock the application when they decide to buy." The Licenser Kit allows developers to quickly add the level of copy-protection security they require, including the following, combinable options for generating restricted usage: * Tie license to host name * Tie license to user name * Tie to host ID * Create floating network licenses * Allow as many users as desired * Have unlimited number of licenses on a network * Add licenses on the fly * Automatically unlicense if application is moved or copied * Generate expiring licenses for "full strength" demos Special "Early Adopter" price of $1999 is available now; the regular price is $10,000. The Licenser Kit is the key to the timely release of Rhapsody/Yellow Box applications. This version fixes a pair of bugs that could cause your workspace to force a logout. Please upgrade if you have v0.9beta. This also adds more functionality for .gz and .Z files. Author: Chris Saldanha <csaldanh@acm.org> http://www.mae.carleton.ca/~csaldanh/ Here's the README file for the bundle: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- README for ArchiveInspector Version 0.91beta by Chris Saldanha <csaldanh@acm.org> ArchiveInspector is a tri-fat (sorry, I didn't have an HP-PA compiled MiscKit, it'll be in the next version, I promise) module for the NeXTSTEP/OpenStep Workspace Manager (i.e. the File Viewer), which adds a Contents inspector panel allowing you to browse around inside various kinds of multi-file archives: -.tar -.tar.Z -.tar.gz -.compressed -.zip You may also extract individual files from the archive (only one at a time, at present), or extract all the files at once, to the current directory, or a specified one. You can also decompress .gz and .Z files (in-place) that aren't also tar archives, so you don't lose the functionality of the NeXT inspector. Please read the file "LICENSE" for license and usage information, "HELP" for info about how to use this fairly trivial inspector, and the file "INSTALL" for installation notes. If you want to receive email when I post new versions of this software, please email me with your desired email address and I'll add you to my list. I will not give this list to other people. THIS IS BETA SOFTWARE. THIS MEANS THAT THERE ARE LIKELY TO BE BUGS IN THIS SOFTWARE. I am releasing this version with BUGS and TODO files, which list the changes to come. Nothing destructive should occur when using this program, but I can't guarantee that. I test only on NeXTSTEP 3.3. It should work on OpenStep for Mach, but I haven't tried it (please let me know!). I would appreciate it if people would have a go at trying to break this module, and please report any bugs or feedback/suggestions to me. This program is PostCardWare, which is essentially free software. Usage is governed by the license found in the file LICENSE (PLEASE READ IT!), which came with the distribution. If you didn't get this file, please let me know where you got your copy of this software, and I will happily send you a copy by email. I am not distributing source code for the beta versions of the software, but I will likely do so when the software is in a release state. This program makes use of the MiscKit, version 1.9.0, particularly the MiscString and MiscTree classes. I have written a category on MiscTree that parses pathnames and inserts all the right things into the MiscTree. I'm going to submit that code, when it's a bit more stable, into the MiscKit. Please visit http://www.misckit.com/ for info about this excellent collection of free objects, classes and palettes that make NeXTSTEP/OpenStep development even better than usual.

This is our scheduled agenda: o The BeNG IN 1998 Timely for the "Rhapsody year" 1998, the Berlin NeXT User Group gets a "face-lifting". We will have a domain of our own (beng.org) [not to mix with the Bay Area NEXTSTEP Group, BANG! ;-) ] and we will (nearly) have rooms of our own! Details will be reveiled on Monday. o RHAPSODY NEWS What's new about Rhapsody and the "Yellow Box" for Windows 95/NT that has just been shipped to the registered Apple Developers? o NEXTTOYOU 97/4 On Christmas eve, the latest issue of the world's unique NEXTSTEP/OPENSTEP/RHAPSODY magazine "NEXTTOYOU" saw the light of the world. As usually, the content of the recent issue will be presented, and copies handed over to the members of the BeNG group subscription. Single copies will be on sale, too, for those who have no subscription yet. The meeting is open to anyone who is interested in NEXTSTEP, OPENSTEP and RHAPSODY, Apple's future operating system . People seeking for more first hand information about these OS's (especially Mac users), are very welcome, too. The official part of the meeting is scheduled to end at about 10 p.m. After the program, join us for a snack and/or drink at a nearby cafe or restaurant. Looking forward to seeing you at the meeting! It is located Marchst. 18 on the campus of the TU near the western city-center of Berlin. The entrance to the building is on the left hand side behind a gate at the end of a parking lot. Watch out for the NeXT-logo-like 'BeNG' signs and follow them upstairs to the meeting room! :-) * by bike or public transport: We recommend coming by bicycle or using the public transport (BVG/S-Bahn): You can either take the underground line U2 or bus 145 or bus X9 and leave at 'Ernst-Reuter-Platz' (+ 400m walking), or you choose bus 245 up to Ernst-Reuter-Platz/Marchst. (+ 200m walking). The nearest rapid transit ("S-Bahn") station is "Tiergarten" (~1000 m/ ~10 min walking distance); you get there via the rapid transit lines S3, S5, S7 or S75. * by car - from North (Wedding [No joke, it's the name of a district of Berlin! :-)], Moabit, Reinickendorf, Pankow ...) Main direction is Turmst. or Beusselst. and then "Alt-Moabit" St. Follow them south, crossing the Spree River via the Gotzkowsky Bridge. At the fork keep left into the Franklinst. After crossing the March Bridge and the Einstein St, the "Institut fuer Energietechnik" is located on the left-hand side of the street behind the drive to a parking lot. - all other directions: Head for Ernst-Reuter-Platz via Bismarckst. or Hardenbergst. (from the West-Berlin city center/Zoo) or "Strasse des 17. Juni"/Grosser Stern. From the roundabout Ernst-Reuter-Platz, take the Marchst. exit. About 200 m into the Marchst., right after a blue building and the drive to a parking lot on the right hand side, you find the "Institut fuer Energietechnik" (marked 'KT' in the ASCII map below). From: far@ix.netcom.com Newsgroups: comp.sys.next.announce Subject: SUBMISSION GateKeeper 3.0 Beta 2 Date: 1 Jan 1998 18:48:12 GMT Organization: Digital Fix Development Message-ID: <68godc$5i7$1@news.digifix.com> SUBMISSION GateKeeper 3.0 Beta 2 GateKeeper 3.0 is an integrated GUI control and PPP package. RELEASE NOTES This is an early, experimental Beta. Minimal testing has been done on Intel hardware running 4.2 User with a SupraSonic modem. Building the source distribution requires NS 3.2/3.3 Developer. It should work with NS 3.2->4.2 User. This release is self contained and will not affect prior releases of GateKeeper or PPP if you install it in a different folder. In this release GateKeeper and the integrated PPP daemon communicate in a peer to peer fashion as necessary via Mach RPC (prior releases parsed the PPP log stream). This allows GateKeeper to dynamically alter the behavior of the running PPP daemon. The current Beta only implements a subset of the planned RPC so many things require the user to stop and start the PPP daemon (from GK) in order for changes to take effect. Central to the operation of this release is "Dial on demand" which I have enabled in the PPP daemon. In fact this release has no "Connect" button beyond it's Manual Dial mechanism. This allows GateKeeper and the PPP daemon to provide the functionality of previous releases while operating independently of each other. For example, if GateKeeper is restarted while a PPP daemon is active it will contact the daemon and resume the peer to peer relationship. The integrated PPP package is based on the NeXT 2.3.1 release of the free PPP as ported by Steve Perkins and others. Significant changes include: GateKeeper.app Architecture has been extensively reworked to support the new model of operation. Preferences now consists of dynamically loaded bundles. PostPPP script execution upon termination of GK and daemon. PPP daemon Dial on demand has been enabled. Mach RPC and communications server thread added. chat Slight mod to overcome cheese ball NeXT POSIX support. Capture and reporting of connection speed via Mach RPC. PPP LKS No changes in this Beta. Testing was done using the PPP2.2 LKS (more stable on my dev system) while this package contains the 2.3.1 LKS. DISTRIBUTION FILES GateKeeper.3.0.Beta.2.s.tar.gz contains a source distribution GateKeeper.3.0.Beta.2.NI.b.tar.gz contains a binary distribution URL's ftp://next-ftp.peak.org/pub/next/apps/internet/ppp/GateKeeper/GateKeeper.3.0.Beta.2.s.tar.gz ftp://next-ftp.peak.org/pub/next/apps/internet/ppp/GateKeeper/GateKeeper.3.0.Beta.2.NI.b.tar.gz ftp://ftp.informatik.uni-muenchen.de/pub/comp/platforms/next/Communication/apps/GateKeeper.3.0.Beta.2.s.tar.gz ftp://ftp.informatik.uni-muenchen.de/pub/comp/platforms/next/Communication/apps/GateKeeper.3.0.Beta.2.NI.b.tar.gz SUPPORT My ability to provide support is very limited. Should you require assistance I will expect you to have the current stable release (2.1) running on your system. During the Beta period I will provide support without charge to those testing the Beta. Upon final release the following will apply: Comments and bug reports are always welcome, but if you would like support the following applies: 1. If you are a non-commercial user and are doing some type of FSF GNU or other freeware work for the UNIX community let me know and we'll call it even. The same is true if you provide software free to single non-commercial users or if you have contributed to the creation of GateKeeper. 2. If you would like E-mail support please register for it by sending in a one time registration fee of $20 USD. 3. If you would like telephone support please contact me via E-mail for details. CURRENT RELEASE The current Beta release of GateKeeper is version 3.0 Beta 2 The current stable release of GateKeeper is version 2.1 FEATURES -- Dial on demand. -- Manual Dial and login to a ppp provider without a script. -- Compound document format for storing information necessary to access an Internet Service Provider. -- GUI document editor (partially implemented) -- Toolbar control -- Idle timeout with sound warning. -- Execute and check exit status of a preLink and a preUnLink script prior to the respective operation. -- displays pppStats -- Redial. -- App Icon session timer. -- Tri-state animated icon provides status feedback. -- Captures and displays connection information BUGS If you are using the GK 2.1 stable release you must switch the PPP log from a FIFO to a file in GK 2.1's preferences. If you want old Gate docs to report connection speed you must add a line to your pppup file like: "REPORT CARRIER". See the enclosed example doc. The documentation does not reflect this Beta release. German localization has been removed from this Beta. If running a local nameserver you should dump it's cache after each PPP session. VERSION: 0.92 beta OS: Openstep for Mach (tested on 4.2 only) (DOES NOT RUN ON NEXTSTEP) PLATFORMS: NeXT, Intel SIZE: 1.8 MB compressed 4.7 MB installed FAT (NeXT, Intel, Sparc) (English & French) 1.53 MB installed for single platform WHERE: ftp://wendy.ucsd.edu/pub/Mark/LogOn_00.92b.m.NIS.tar.gz LogOn is intended for internet users who just want an application that launches and kills PPP which is both simple to install and easy to use. The goal was to provide an app that frees users from having to deal with chat scripts, options files, or pap-secrets files. It is not an application that helps you install PPP or configure PPP, but rather one that (hopefully) shields you from ever having to know the nitty-gritty details of pppd or chat. Using LogOn for the first time is as easy as entering your account name, password and phone number. Afterwards, using LogOn is as simple as saying "I want to connect to Netcom from Home using PPP 2.3" and pressing a button. FEATURES: * Graphic front end to ppp. * Maintains unlimited number of "Accounts": Saves account name, password, server phone number, chat script... Have one for each account you own... * Maintains unlimited number of "Locations": Saves modem initializations, phone prefix/postfix, long distance access codes... Have one for home, one for work, one for school, etc * Maintains unlimited number of "Option" files. (With a GUI, of course!) * To use, just connect a "Server" Location with a "Local" Location and press the LogOn button. * "Autodetect" feature - no chat scripts! * "Autoredial" feature - keeps trying until ppp is active * Launches apps you select automatically when ppp is established * Changes signatures to match your "virtual" location. * Can fetch pop mail for you when ppp is established (You supply a program like popOver) * Can purge mail queue when ppp is established. * Maintains /etc/resolv.conf (if you wish - you can disable this feature). * A clock tracks time on line. * Log Window displays ppp log file (or other you select) * PPP Expert and Novice users - limits access to certain elements of LogOn to experts only. * Users can choose whether to use an external script or LogOn to bring up connection. Likewise to bring down a connection. * Context Help to guide you through the set up process. * Compatable with both pppd 2.2 and pppd 2.3. WHAT'S NEW: Version .92 * Removed pppkill from project. Uses shell script pppdown instead. * New multi-panel Preferences Panel. * Can set time between autoredial attempts. * Dial on startup option * Kill or not kill PPP on shutdown option * If LogOn is killed before it has a chance to restore the filesystem, the next time it is run the user is asked if they wish to restore the filesystem to its previous state. * If PPP is already running when LogOn is launched, it will automatically switch to the connected state. * LogOn files are now readable/writable only by owner. * Passwords in chat scripts are now sent securely - prepended with the /q escape character. * There are now "Send Mail" and "Fetch Mail" menu items. Version .91 * Added French language project (translation by Andre Lalonde <info@scribex.com>). * BUG FIX: LogOn now properly saves whether not not you want to have it issue the command to fetch your mail. Please download it and give it a try. And, of course, please let me know of any comments or suggestions you might have. Thank you for trying LogOn! --- Mark Trombino mtrombin@ix.netcom.com (NEXTMail, MIME Mail okay)

From: info@vvi.com (VVI-DCS Information) Newsgroups: comp.sys.next.announce Subject: PRESS RELEASE: OpenGraph Unleashes WEB Graphing For Rhapsody and OpenStep Date: 12 Jan 1998 20:41:31 GMT Organization: Digital Fix Development Message-ID: <69dv5r$dmk$1@news.digifix.com> PRESS RELEASE: OpenGraph Unleashes WEB Graphing For Rhapsody and OpenStep VVI Data Control Specialists (VVI-DCS) 311 Adams Ave.; State College, PA 16803 USA 888-DCS-OPEN ; 814-234-9613 info@vvi.com http://www.vvi.com State College, PA USA, 12 January 1998: VVI Data Control Specialists (VVI-DCS) today announced availability of OpenGraph for WEB charting and graphing purposes. As a demonstration of this capability, VVI-DCS has been running a Live Temperature Lab (see http://www.vvi.com/liveTemperatureLab.html) where, during the past month, over 100 million temperature values have been digitized and then, on the minute, recorded in graph format and made available to WEB browsers throughout the world. The whole process takes about one percent of the CPU which means millions of graphs per month can be generated on a modern Mac or PC. John Brilhart, CTO of VVI-DCS, remarks: "Our customers aren't normally this severe with their computers. However, it is important that we take OpenGraph to the limit as part of our quality assurance programs. We've been implementing these types of systems for six years now and it is the best way to improve overall quality and functionality." OpenGraph runs on OpenStep, Rhapsody, Windows NT and Windows 95 using Apple's OpenStep Enterprise and Yellow Box and integrates with Apple's WebObjects. Because of that graphs can be generated and displayed in real-time and on-demand for any web browser, Java enabled or not. OpenGraph includes a comprehensive framework and API, an easy to use Interface Builder palette and the comprehensive building tool, GraphBuilder, to make technical-oriented figures, maps, templates, graphs and complete page-oriented documents. About VVI-DCS: VVI Data Control Specialists (VVI-DCS) was cofounded in 1989 by Ed VanVliet and John Brilhart, subsequently incorporated in 1992 and is currently a privately held corporation. Since its founding VVI-DCS expanded to be the leading independent supplier of data reporting software in the OpenStep marketplace. VVI-DCS's customers comprise world leading companies in the banking, biotechnology, chemical, financial services, manufacturing, and pharmaceutical industries. Systems VVI-DCS helped build have been operational for years and at this time are monitoring billions of dollars worth of products in real-time and on a global scale. These systems are, in part, based on VVI-DCS's OpenGraph About OpenGraph: OpenGraph is a framework of Objective-C and C++ objects for reporting data in graph and textual formats and consists of a graph building application and pre-built objects. OpenGraph accepts real-time feeds from any source and serves as a graphing front-end for real-time financial analysis, transaction, production and inventory analysis, database systems, and instrumentation. OpenGraph is fully object-oriented and is well suited to systems which require reliability, exacting specifications and performance. _________________________________ (C) Copyright 1998 VVimaging, Inc. From: Dirk Fromhein <Dirk.Fromhein@watershed.com> Newsgroups: comp.sys.next.announce Subject: Relational Object Framework for Java Beans -> NeXT EOF to JavaBeans Transition Tool Date: 12 Jan 1998 04:16:08 GMT Organization: Digital Fix Development Message-ID: <69c5e8$kk9$1@news.digifix.com> NeXT Developers: A New Product to Transition from NeXTSTEP/OpenStep EOF to JavaBeans Watershed Technologies is getting set to introduce our latest product, Relational Object Framework (ROF) for JavaBean, a class library and supporting administration tool that allows you to move from NeXTSTEP/OpenStep to Java. ROF is able to convert Enterprise Object Framework (EOF) models (both 1.x and 2.x) to Java-based ROF models. ROF is also be able to generate source code for base Java objects that map appropriately. In developing ROF, our engineers have relied heavily on their many years of EOF experience to influence the design of ROF. It goes beyond the capabilities of EOF and provides greater functionality and ease-of-use. Our Beta will be released on Thursday, January 15th, and we believe that you?ll really like what you?ll see. Below please find detailed information on ROF and about this upcoming Beta test. Product Description: ROF is a set of class libraries and application tools that allows software developers to create Java applications that work with any Relational Database Management System (RDBMS). The Relational Object Framework simplifies application development by eliminating direct RDBMS interactions from Java programming. Any JavaBean can be automatically mapped to database tables. Java programmers can create sophisticated scalable applications that interact with any RDBMS without knowing SQL, the structure of the database, or managing the connection layer via JDBC. This allows programmers to access an RDBMS without any database specific coding. Additionally, because ROF maintains its own model of the database and the class mappings, the database structure and class definitions can change independently. This results in huge time savings during product development and product maintenance. ROF allows any Java Business Object to be ?mapped? to any relational database tables. This mapping can also span multiple tables. This mapping is also ?lazy?, related objects are not fetched from the database until they are accessed in some way. This makes the program much more efficient. ROF allows programs to be two tier (direct connection to the database), two and a half tier (inserting a middle tier that ?pools? connections between ROF and the database), and true three tier (via CORBA or DCOM/Microsoft Transaction Server). ROF is written to take advantage of any JDBC driver. This flexibility provides enterprise level scalability without any code changes. Product Summary: ? Relational Object Framework (ROF) is a Relational Database to Java Objects mapping layer useful for client/server database application development; it's a bridge that maps complex Java Objects to database entities/attributes/relations ? From: Tom Hageman <tom@basil.icce.rug.nl> Newsgroups: comp.sys.next.announce Subject: SUBMISSION: perl 5.004_04 Installer packages Date: 14 Jan 1998 21:07:34 GMT Organization: Digital Fix Development Message-ID: <69j9em$l3e$1@news.digifix.com> -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- This is a ready-to-install binary distribution of Perl 5.004_04 for NEXTSTEP / OPENSTEP / Prelude to Rhapsody. As a special bonus it is built with SysVIPC shared memory/semaphore support -- including the sys/{ipc,sem,shm}.ph headers this time :-) (see ftp://ftp.nl.net/pub/comp/next/SysVIPC/.) perl.pkg contains the base Perl executable, libraries and man pages. If you want to create Perl extensions or embed Perl into your own programs you must also install perlCORE.pkg (see `ExtUtils::MakeMaker.3' and `ExtUtils::Embed.3' in `/usr/local/lib/perl5/man/man3' after installation of perl.pkg.) If you want to be able to run setuid perl scripts you should also install perlsuid.pkg. Note: this last package MUST be installed as "root". You must also have libgdbm.a and libposix.a libraries installed in the libraries search path at if you want to be able to use GDBM and POSIX modules, respectively. This is because these libraries are linked at runtime when these modules are loaded dynamically into perl. (So you'd need these libraries even at non-Developer systems. I haven't yet found a feasible workaround for this, sorry.) The NDBM and ODBM modules use libgdbm.a if it is available, and fall back to libdbm.a otherwise. [A precompiled gdbm package is available at ftp://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/comp/next/<<where???>> The POSIX library is available at ftp://ftp.next.com/pub/Patches/NEXTSTEP3.3Patch1/libposix.a according to NeXTanswer #2066. One problem with downloading this is that it must be re-ranlib-ed after you copy it to /usr/lib (or /usr/local/lib) or you will not be able to link against it -- NeXT should have put it inside a .tar.gz archive...] The perl-examples archive contains some sample perl scripts, as distributed with the perl source. These are not installed by default; do with them as you see fit. It also contains cperl-mode.el, yet another perl editing mode for Emacs 19.29 or later. This is not installed by default since it may conflict with `perl-mode.el' as shipped with Emacs. If you want it, install it in /path/to/lib/emacs/site-lisp/. This perl distribution has been tested on NeXT and Intel, but not on Sparc or HPPA. Use it at your own risk. This distribution has been built for NS3.3. It does run on OS/Mach, but I doubt that you can successfully build new perl modules using the OPENSTEP compiler. KNOWN PROBLEMS WITH THIS DISTRIBUTION: - - due to the way it is built (a NS3.3 cross-compiler setup running under OPENSTEP) preprocessing using perls `-P' option does not work unless you have `cc3' installed (This is a compiled in constant unfortunately -- perl does not read it from Config.pm.) A workaround is to create a symlink e.g: ln -s /bin/cc /usr/local/bin/cc3 - - If the perl package is installed on an OPENSTEP system, a NS3.x cross-compilation environment is assumed to be mounted on /NEXTSTEP/, and my `cc3' cross-compilation script (as present in the MiscKit) is assumed as its default compiler. If you don't want this you have to edit /usr/local/lib/perl5/next-fat/5.00404/Config.pm by hand. Copyright 1987-1997, Larry Wall. Perl may be copied only under the terms of either the Artistic License or the GNU General Public License, which may be found in the Perl 5.0 source kit. Use `perlbug' to report bugs in Perl. From: Alvin Jee <alvin@neander.com> Newsgroups: comp.sys.next.announce Subject: PRESS RELEASE: First release of NeanderCam and BW QuickCam driver Date: 16 Jan 1998 20:35:45 GMT Organization: Digital Fix Development Message-ID: <69ogb1$re3$1@news.digifix.com> For Immediate Release: Contact: Neanderthal Design NeanderCam@neander.com Fax: (408) 738-8336 http://www.neander.com PRESS RELEASE: First release of the NeanderCam still image capture application and a driver for the Connectix Gray-Scale QuickCam is available. 15 Jan 1998 - Sunnyvale, California Neanderthal Design announces the availability of version 1.0 of NeanderCam and a driver for the parallel port version of the Connectix gray-scale QuickCam for NeXTSTEP 3.3. NeanderCam is a NeXTSTEP 3.3 application that displays still-frame images that are captured by digital cameras. NeanderCam allows you to save the displayed images as TIFF files. NeanderCam also supports the dragging of images from the "viewfinder" into other applications as TIFF images. NeanderCam allows users to use not only the cameras that are connected to the local machine, but also to cameras that are located on other machines attached to the network. Thus, NeanderCam can be used for remote visual monitoring and primitive video conferencing. NeanderCam makes use of run-time loaded bundles to load drivers for specific camera types. This allows users to use new camera types without requiring a new version of NeanderCam. In conjunction with this release of NeanderCam, Neanderthal Design is releasing version 1.0 of a driver for the parallel port (Windows) version of the Connectix gray-scale QuickCam camera. While this driver only runs on Intel machines running NeXTSTEP 3.3, NeanderCam can access the QuickCam from any NeXTSTEP 3.3 machine on the local network. The Intel version of the driver and the quad-FAT versions of NeanderCam and the driver bundle can be retrieved from our web site http://www.neander.com or out ftp site ftp://ftp.neander.com. For more information send e-mail to NeanderCam@neander.com --- NeanderCam is a trademark of Neanderthal Design. QuickCam is a trademark or Connectix Corporation. Using EggTimer, you can set multiple reminders that are either one-time or recurring. The application keeps track of the reminders and tells you at all times how much time remains before the reminder will "fire". You can re-set or change the properties of the reminder at any time before or even after it has expired. If you download and use EggTimer, please send me e-mail to let me know how you like it and how I can improve it. EggTimer is available for OPENSTEP MACH (Moto/Intel), Microsoft Windows NT, and Apple Rhapsody. Source code is also available if you are trying to learn OPENSTEP programming. EggTimer took all of two to three days of development. Please note that the Rhapsody binary is not tested and I am able to provide it due to the generous help of Eric Peyton. Please try to download and install it and let me know if it really works. I would love to receive a Rhapsody screen shot similar to the Windows NT one I have at my web site (URL listed below). Enjoy! Speakers: * Steve Dekorte of Inquisit, Inc. and Robert Vasvari, consultant with Inquisit, Inc. * Ernest N. Prabhakar, Ph.D., Rhapsody Product Marketing Manager, Apple Computer, Inc. with a review of MacWorld SF (and maybe a few surprises...) ----- Your company is acquired and your new CEO orders you to get rid of all that Steve-the-Giant Technology, but one department after another knocks on your door and wants you to build "just a little app" so that they can access their departmental data from the corporate orb. What are you going to do when no other technology accomplishes the same thing and they are begging? It's Enterprise Objects Frameworks (EOF), Apple's slightly known Crown Jewels, to the rescue!!! _Steve Dekorte_ of _Inquisit_, Inc. and _Robert Vasvari_, consultant with Inquisit, Inc., present their powerful example of EOF's table relationship abstraction and how it can be used to implement dynamic and flexible client user interfaces for enterprise database access. WebObjects is a recognized buzzword, but don't miss this great demo of the pertinent, underlying technology which makes Web Objects Frameworks able to be legendary. As Al Gore says, "It's about the ease of getting data out of the database, stupid!" And Enterprise Objects provides that power and ease in spades. Real Yellow Box Business Apps was first explained as, "a very cool app built using AppKit and EOF, developed in only 3 weeks." See for yourself! Don't miss this tangible evidence of why Apple needs to stay around. -- The second portion of the program: a little MacWorld SF wrap-up for good measure), with: Ernest N. Prabhakar, Ph.D., Rhapsody Product Marketing Manager, Apple Computer, Inc. There will also be time for an audience participatory "MacWorld Report", including feedback about the Rhapsody Birds-of-a-Feather session, which was attended by an overflow crowd. Additional information about the show and breaking Rhapsody highlights will be recapped by Ernest N. Prabhakar, Ph.D., Rhapsody Product Marketing Manager, who continues to be a fountain of useful information from Apple. It doesn't get any better than hearing it directly from Ernie. Please join us for the presentation, demos, Q&A, and dinner after the meeting at a nearby restaurant. -- Presenter Bios: Steve Dekorte is an OPENSTEP and WebObjects software engineer at Inquisit, Inc. in San Francisco. Among other contributions, he maintains a useful Web site (http://www.slip.net/~dekorte) which includes a link to the "Rhapsody enlightening" Objective-C home page, which he maintains. Steve's OO framework and GUI story begins in 1992 at the Supercomputer Computations Research Institute (SCRI), in Tallahassee, FL, and has worked with NEXTSTEP/OPENSTEP since 1995. Steve is a frequent contributor to the Rhapsody-Dev.listserv which has become increasingly active with the shipment of Apple's Rhapsody Developer Release 1.0, and he has worked as a NEXTSTEP/OPENSTEP software engineer at Suite Software, Inc. and Marble Associates, Inc. Robert Vasvari is currently a consultant at Inquisit, Inc., where he is porting NEXTSTEP applications to OPENSTEP. (Rhapsody is an easy port after that!) Formerly he worked as a NEXTSTEP Developer/ Architect at Filoli Information Systems, as a NEXTSTEP Developer for a Speech Recognition Research Project at SF State University, and before that as a NEXTSTEP Developer for the Neural Network Research Project at SFSU. Robert designed and built three popular NEXTSTEP freeware programs (available at next-ftp.peak.org): "RBrowser" - a remote filesystem browser; "HelpfileBuilder" - builds NEXTSTEP Help files for applications; "Starter" - a simple app that provides a platform to build on. He holds both a B.S. and M.S. in computer science from SFSU. _ Next Month's BANG Meeting: Wednesday, February 25, 1998, 7:00 PM -- 1998 BANG Meeting Schedule Confirmed for Apple's Town Hall: * January 28 * February 25 * March 25 * April 22 Planned (to be confirmed) for Apple's Town Hall * May 27 * June 24 * July 22 * August 26 * September 23 * October 28 * November 18 * December 16 ================================================================== Where to Get More Information * Email: info@bang.org * World Wide Web: http://www.bang.org/ BANG, the Bay Area NeXT Group, is a longstanding support forum now focused on issues relating to Rhapsody/PPC, Rhapsody/Intel, YellowBox/PPC, YellowBox/Intel, BlueBox, WebObjects, EOF, the rumored Apple NC, as-yet-to-be-announced OS permutations, OPENSTEP, NEXTSTEP and the Macintosh computing environment. Installation ============ ATTENTION: Before you can install this Package you must install the SSL.pkg which includes two Frameworks (SSLCrypto, SSL) to /LocalLibrary/Frameworks, without these Frameworks the bundle doesn't work. To enable the HTTPS protocol, install the ./HTTPS.omniweb bundle anywhere in the OmniWeb 3.x bundle path. Then, restart OmniWeb.app. The recommended location for personal installation is ~/Library/Components for system-wide installation /LocalLibrary/Components. If you use a proxy server, you MUST include at least one protocol for your proxy server (http, ftp, etc. but not https) in the protocol section of the Proxy-Preferences Panel or add the "https" protocol to the NonProxiableSchemes like defaults write OmniWeb NonProxiableSchemes "(file, mailto, omniweb, rlogin, telnet, tn3270, https)" Without these "workarounds" OmniWeb wraps https calls to http!!! CONNECT-Protocol (Proxy Support for https) ========================================== To enable proxy support for https (SSL tunneling) you need another entry in the Proxy-Preferences Panel. Add a server to the "Proxy Server URL" section like this: "https:\\whatever-cache:1234\" and add the https protocol to the "Protocols" section. IMPORTANT: The https proxy MUST be the first server in the list, because the list of proxy servers is an ordered list. For example my proxy defaults look like this: ProxyServers = "(\n {\n destinations = (oic.de); \n proxyURL = \"(non-proxied protocols and destinations)\"; \n }, \n {proxyURL = \"https://www-cache.oic.de:3128/\"; schemes = (https); }, \n {proxyURL = \"http://www-cache.oic.de:3128/\"; }\n)"; History ======= 1.0 - Changed the Proxy-Support. If you need proxy support add the proxy server now with the Proxy-Preferences Panel of OmniWeb. - Created a Version for OmniWeb 3.x (OpenStep/Rhapsody) AND OmniWeb 2.x - The name of the bundle for OmniWeb 3.x (OpenStep/Rhapsody) is "HTTPS", for OmniWeb 2.x "HTTPSExtension". 0.9 (Beta) - Added Proxy authentication for the CONNECT-Protocol. - Fixed a bug in the Hostname resolver. Now it should be possible to use this bundle without any DNS if you use a proxy server. 0.8 (Beta) - Adapted the bundle for OmniWeb 3.x - SSLeay-lib is now located in two Frameworks (SSLCrypto, SSL) - Renamed it (sorry for that) from HTTPSExtension.omniweb to HTTPS.omniweb, because the "new" bundle is not compatible with OmniWeb2.x, it works ONLY for OmniWeb3.x. So it is easier for me to figure out which bundle you mean if you have some questions about it. 0.7 - It's now SSLeay-lib in version 0.8.1. - Supports SSLv2 and SSLv3 - Added a Preferences Panel - Added Proxy-Support (CONNECT-Protocol) (see HTTPS Preferences) - Added an Installer Package - Renamed it from https.omni to HTTPSExtension.omniweb - Fixed some bugs - Removed the source code 0.6 - Internal version 0.5a - It's now SSLeay-lib in version 0.5.2a. - Fixed a little (not important) bug. - Included the source code 0.5 - First version, which uses the SSLeay-lib in version 0.5.1b Bugs? ===== Yes, if you use a proxy server. You MUST include at least one protocol for your proxy server (http, ftp, etc. but not https) in the protocol section of the Proxy-Preferences Panel or add the "https" protocol to the NonProxiableSchemes. ATTENTION: Without any protocols, OmniWeb wraps https calls to http!! Send bug reports, suggestions or comments to the address below. Getting the Newsgroups without getting News =========================================== Thanks to Michael Ross at antigone.com, the main NEXTSTEP groups are now available as a mailing list digest as well. next-nextstep next-advocacy next-announce next-bugs next-hardware next-marketplace next-misc next-programmer next-software next-sysadmin object lang-objective-c (For a full description, send mail to listserv@antigone.com). Please send them to beng@buran.fb10.tu-berlin.de. How to get there ---------------- We meet in Room KT 101 on the 1st floor of the "Institut fuer Energietechnik", a building of the Technical University of Berlin. There is a limited number of parking lots near the building. From: Dwight Everhart <everhart@chronographer.com> Newsgroups: comp.sys.next.announce Subject: SUBMISSION: Chronographer 1.11 Date: 28 Jan 1998 06:25:52 GMT Organization: Digital Fix Development Message-ID: <6amj1g$ad0$1@news.digifix.com> Chronographer -- A daily planner application Dwight Everhart everhart@chronographer.com January 27, 1998 UPDATE ====== Chronographer version 1.11 has been released. (Version 1.10 was released for two days, but it had a bug which prevented users of version 0.98 from upgrading, so I didn't announce that release. That bug is fixed in this version.) Licenses purchased for version 1.00 or 1.02 will apply to this version, as well as to all 1.xx versions. In fact, all version 1 licenses will also apply to version 2, so, if you buy a version 1 license, you'll get a free upgrade to version 2. This is an especially good deal considering that version 2 will cost US$60, and the price of version 1 will increase to $60 when version 2 is released. Order now and save $20. A note about future versions of Chronographer: Version 2 will run on Rhapsody, Windows 95/NT, and Mac OS (when Apple releases the Yellow Box for Mac OS). Version 2 will *not* support OPENSTEP for Mach, but, of course, version 1 will continue to run on that platform. For those of you who have purchased a license already, please don't uninstall the previous version of Chronographer before installing this new version. There's no need to, and, if you do, your registration file will be deleted. I can send you another copy if that happens, but it's better to avoid the hassle in the first place. Features added in this version: o The evaluation period is now based on when you started using Chronographer. It now ends 60 days after you start instead of on an arbitrary date like February 1. If you started using Chronographer before December 17, your evaluation period will end on February 15. To continue using Chronographer after that date, you will need to purchase a license. If you started using Chronographer after December 17, you'll have a full 60 days to evaluate the program. o The date on which the evaluation period ends can be viewed on the registration panel. To see the date, choose the Info-->Register... command. o A new view had been added to the inspector: the File List. With it, a list of files can be associated with any role, goal, task, or appointment. The files can be added using an open panel or by dragging them into a file well or on top of the appointment. One or more of the files can be opened by selecting them and double-clicking or dragging them from the file well. One of the files in the list can be marked as the "default" file. This file will be opened when the appointment is double-clicked if a preference for this is set. If an appointment has no files associated with it, a double-click will open the default file associated with the first parent that has any files in its file list. Files can also be dropped onto an open part of a schedule or to-do list. An appointment will be created for the file using the name of the file as the name of the appointment. o A new command, Agenda-->Load All has been added. If it is used, all appointments will be loaded. This isn't normally needed, since Chronographer automatically loads appointments as it needs them, but it is useful for correcting the effects of a bug which appears to cause the appointment count info to become incorrect. Loading all appointments automatically causes a recount to be done. The appointment count is used mainly by the Task Report to determine which appointments have been scheduled and which haven't. o A lock file is now created when a chronograph is opened to ensure that the same file isn't used by two copies of Chronographer at the same time. If Chronographer finds a lock when it opens the chronograph, it will ask you if it should break the lock and use the chronograph anyway. This will happen when re-starting Chronographer after a crash. o The registration file is now saved in your ~/Library/Chronographer folder in addition to the app wrapper. This ensures that the registration data is preserved if Chronographer is uninstalled and then reinstalled. It also allows you to register Chronographer without running it as root if you installed it as root, although doing so would cause Chronographer to be registered only for you and not for anyone else that uses your system or network. Bug fixed: o Clicking on the completion box of a to-do item or task did not have any effect if the window was not the main window. These new features and fixed bugs are also described in Chronographer's release notes. Choose the Info-->Release Notes command to see them. AVAILABILITY ============ You can download Chronographer from its web page at http://www.chronographer.com/Download/. The page lists the sites where Chronographer is available. Just click on the site nearest you that has the package you want. The release is binary-only and includes software for NeXT, Intel, HP-PA, and SPARC hardware. It will run on NEXTSTEP versions 3.2 and later and on all versions of OPENSTEP for Mach. Chronographer is a commercial product. However, you are welcome to try it for free for 60 days. During that time it will be fully functional. If you wish to continue using it after that time, you'll need to purchase a license for US$40 per user. If you wish to be removed from this announcement list, either use the Info-->Mailing List command in Chronographer, or just reply to this message and tell me you want to be removed. -- Dwight Everhart "Imagination is more important than knowledge."
