Target Development announces the 4.2.2 release of ReportPalette for OpenStep/Mach and the Enterprise Objects Framework (version 2.0). The ReportPalette is a collection of objects that allow you to easily add custom report writing features into your EOF applications. Unlike traditional report writers that directly access database tables, the ReportPalette reports on NSDictionary values from your Enterprise Objects. EODisplayGroups can be used to define the hierarchy of the report, and Interface Builder serves as the medium for page layout. Using the ReportPalette, keys of your EOs can be mapped directly to columns or free-form text fields on the report page. Images and formatted rich text with imbedded keys can also be added graphically. This WYSIWYG reporting tool is capable of reproducing custom forms, generating mailing labels and form letters, and producing on-the-fly hierarchical column-based and free-form reports. Other ReportPalette Features: + Custom Static and Dynamic Page Sequences; for report cover, insertion, and trailer pages + Custom page backgrounds; for page header and footer information + Automatic Page Layout control at runtime + Horizontal pagination + Multi-level group headers and footers, including totals + Column Headers and Footers, with totals + Support for Report Document Archiving and Unarchiving + Full support for the Foundation classes, including NSString, NSNumber, NSCalendarDate, NSData for RTF(D), and NSImage objects. + Fully documented API for programmatic customization The ReportPalette ships with several demo applications and NIBs, along with install scripts and EOModels for Sybase, Oracle, Informix, and QuickBase. The example NIBs can be loaded and run using IB's 'Test Interface' mode! That's how easy it is! Example NIBs include a column based report, form letters, mailing labels, a free-form report, and a custom healthcare form. A date licensed version of the palette is available via ftp or directly from Target Development. The product is licensed through January 10, 1997. The product includes the Interface Builder palette, the TDReportKit and TDSharedKit Frameworks, complete technical documentation, and various demo applications and NIBS. From: Timothy Luoma <luomat@peak.org> Newsgroups: comp.sys.next.announce Subject: PRESS RELEASE: PEAK announces OpenStep-specific FTP Archive Date: 5 Feb 1997 20:46:27 GMT Organization: The PEAK FTP site for OpenStep & NeXTStep Message-ID: <5darj3$hjs@news.digifix.com> Contact: The PEAK FTP Team <next-ftp@peak.org> 4 Feb 1997 - (Corvallis Oregon) The PEAK FTP site is happy to announce the expansion of its FTP site for NeXTStep and OpenStep submissions. The OpenStep part of the archive has been made a separate entity from the NeXTStep part. Support for NeXTStep submissions will continue as before for any and all NeXTStep applications, information, etc which might be uploaded. We decided this was necessary because OpenStep submissions are beginning to trickle in, and we wanted to maintain clarity in which applications were for which platform. We also wanted to emphasize our commitment and excitement to OpenStep by giving it a place of its own. To that end, a new section of the FTP site has been created: ftp://ftp.next.peak.org/pub/openstep/ Without having to access a new host, users can connect to this URL as the top-level of purely OpenStep applications and information. It should be clear from that URL that what follows us for OpenStep rather than NeXTStep. Having just finished a major overhaul of the NeXTStep portion of the FTP archive, we wanted to keep the OpenStep portion of similar "look and feel". Therefore, you will notice that the sub-folders of the OpenStep archive is identical to the sub-folders of the NeXTStep archive -- with one (slight, but important) difference. Since OpenStep exists on many different platforms, and in order to keep the platforms separate on the site, the main folder (/pub/openstep) has 4 subdivisions: /pub/openstep/mach # for OpenStep for MACH /pub/openstep/solaris # for OpenStep for Solaris /pub/openstep/windows # for OpenStep for WinNT and finally /pub/openstep/multi-platforms # for any submissions which are for more than one of the above. Again, this structure allows for an ease-of-use because a simple glance at the URL will tell you what platform the applications or information relate to, and if new OpenStep ports come out (ie /pub/openstep/powerpc) we can easily integrate them into the existing structure. So each of the /pub/openstep/* folders mentioned above have their own sub-structure identical to the structure of /pub/next/. NEW ARRIVALS: All new arrivals to the entire /pub/openstep hierarchy will be linked to /pub/openstep/new_arrivals for at least 30 days. Naming conventions for OpenStep will allow use of one common folder for all new arrivals, at least for now. In the future we may find it necessary to have separate "new_arrivals" folders for each platform, but we shall cross that proverbial bridge when we come to it. SUBMISSIONS: All OpenStep submissions should be uploaded to /pub/openstep/submissions/ Be sure to read the file "README-HOW-TO-NAME-OPENSTEP-SUBMISSIONS" before submitting any OpenStep files. NeXTStep: Just to re-state that the NeXTStep part of the FTP site will continue as before, submissions should be uploaded to /pub/next/submissions/ and new arrivals can be found at /pub/next/new_arrivals/ If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at <next-ftp@peak.org> Thanks! The PEAK FTP Team

From: sanguish@digifix.com Newsgroups: comp.sys.next.announce Subject: PRESS RELEASE: Apple Computer, Inc. Finalizes Acquisition of NeXT Software Inc. Date: 8 Feb 1997 04:48:23 GMT Organization: Digital Fix Development Message-ID: <5dh0in$b5n@news.digifix.com> Apple Computer, Inc. Finalizes Acquisition of NeXT Software Inc. Company Moves Forward with Operating System Strategy Incorporating NeXT Technology CUPERTINO, Calif., Feb. 7 -- Apple Computer, Inc. today announced it has completed its acquisition of NeXT Software, Inc., after securing all necessary regulatory approvals. Apple announced on Dec. 20, 1996 its intention to purchase NeXT in a friendly acquisition for approximately $400 million. Steve Jobs, Chairman and CEO of NeXT Software, will serve as an advisor to Dr. Gilbert F. Amelio, Apple's Chairman and CEO. "The finalization of our acquisition of NeXT confirms our commitment to providing our customers and software developers with a solid OS strategy," said Dr. Gilbert F. Amelio, Chairman and CEO, Apple Computer Inc. "We embark upon Apple's third decade with renewed enthusiasm, and we look forward to working with our developers, customers, and industry colleagues to proliferate Apple's legacy of vision and technological excellence." The acquisition brings together Apple's and NeXT's innovative and complementary technology portfolios including Apple's leadership in ease-of-use and multimedia solutions and NeXT's strengths in development software and operating environments for both the enterprise and Internet markets. The combination significantly strengthens Apple's position as a company advancing industry standards. NeXT's object oriented software development products will contribute to Apple's goal of creating a differentiated and profitable software business, with a wide range of products for enterprise, business, education, and home markets. Earlier this year, Apple announced the company's operating system strategy, which incorporates NeXT technology. The Mac OS will continue to be upgraded in regular biannual releases, while NeXT technology will form the basis for Apple's next-generation OS, Rhapsody. Apple believes that the advanced technical underpinnings and rapid development environment of Rhapsody will allow developers to create new applications that leapfrog those of other "modern" operating systems, such as Windows NT. The first release of Rhapsody is expected to be launched to developers in mid to late 1997 and to customers within 12 months. A unified Rhapsody release is expected to be in the hands of customers by mid-1998. This will include compatibility with existing Mac OS applications, as well as provide a platform for next-generation computing. The acquisition of NeXT is further evidence that Apple is fundamentally changing the way it does business. Apple believes that by embracing outside technology and driving cross-platform industry standards, it can innovate in the key areas that give its products and technology differentiation. NeXT's cross-platform development environments for enterprise and Internet/intranet markets, allow developers to write once and deploy across a range of Internet and client-server platforms. In a new era of industry collaboration and joint initiatives -- brought on by the "megatrends" of pervasive Internet and ubiquitous multimedia -- NeXT technology complements Apple's strength in multimedia authoring and playback, as well as Internet access, Internet authoring, and Internet server solutions. In the last year Apple has worked on a series of collaboration initiatives which leverage the Company's core strengths in Internet, multimedia, and component software. Wide ranging agreements with Netscape Communications, Sun Microsystems, and Silicon Graphics Computer Systems -- along with the acquisition of NeXT -- confirm Apple is building strategic relationships at the forefront of the information industry. Except for the historical information contained herein, the statements regarding effecting innovation, introducing new products, continuing focus on certain industry growth areas and are forward-looking statements that involve risks and uncertainties. Potential risks and uncertainties include, without limitation, continued competitive pressures in the marketplace; the effect competitive factors and the Company's reaction to them may have on consumer and business buying decisions with respect to the Company's products; the Company's ability to deliver successful innovative products to the marketplace; the Company's ability to deliver new products to the marketplace on a timely basis; the effect of the announced business restructuring on the future performance of the Company, especially the performance of the Company's employees; and the need for any future restructuring. More information on potential factors that could affect the Company's financial results are included in the Company's Form 10-Q for the first quarter of the 1997 fiscal year, to be filed with the SEC. Apple Computer, Inc., a recognized innovator in the information industry and leader in multimedia technologies, creates powerful solutions based on easy-to-use personal computers, servers, peripherals, software, personal digital assistants and Internet content. Headquartered in Cupertino, California, Apple develops, manufactures, licenses and markets solutions, products, technologies and services for business, education, consumer, entertainment, scientific and engineering and government customers in more than 140 countries. It was created specifically to divert lengthy flame wars from .misc. news:comp.sys.next.announce Announcements of general interest to the NeXT community (new products, FTP submissions, user group meetings, commercial announcements etc.) This is a moderated newsgroup, meaning that you can't post to it directly. Submissions should be e-mailed to next-announce@digifix.com where the moderator (Scott Anguish) will screen them for suitability. Archives are available by ftp at ftp://ftp.stepwise.com/pub/Next_Announce_Archives Messages posted to announce should NOT be posted or crossposted to any other comp.sys.next groups. news:comp.sys.next.bugs A place to report verifiable bugs in NeXT-supplied software. Material e-mailed to Bug_NeXT@NeXT.COM is not published, so this is a place for the net community find out about problems when they're discovered. This newsgroup has a very poor signal/noise ratio--all too often bozos post stuff here that really belongs someplace else. It rarely makes sense to crosspost between this and other c.s.n.* newsgroups, but individual reports may be germane to certain non-NeXT- specific groups as well. news:comp.sys.next.hardware Discussions about NeXT-label hardware and compatible peripherals, and non-NeXT-produced hardware (e.g. Intel) that is compatible with NEXTSTEP. In most cases, questions about Intel hardware are better asked in comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware. Questions about SCSI devices belong in comp.periphs.scsi. This isn't the place to buy or sell used NeXTs--that's what .marketplace is for. news:comp.sys.next.marketplace NeXT stuff for sale/wanted. Material posted here must not be crossposted to any other c.s.n.* newsgroup, but may be crossposted to misc.forsale.computers.workstation or appropriate regional newsgroups. news:comp.sys.next.misc For stuff that doesn't fit anywhere else. Anything you post here by definition doesn't belong anywhere else in c.s.n.*--i.e. no crossposting!!! news:comp.sys.next.programmer Questions and discussions of interest to NEXTSTEP programmers. This is primarily a forum for advanced technical material. Generic UNIX questions belong elsewhere (comp.unix.questions), although specific questions about NeXT's implementation or porting issues are appropriate here. Note that there are several other more "horizontal" newsgroups (comp.lang.objective-c, comp.lang.postscript, comp.os.mach, comp.protocols.tcp-ip, etc.) that may also be of interest. news:comp.sys.next.software This is a place to talk about [third party] software products that run on NEXTSTEP systems. news:comp.sys.next.sysadmin Stuff relating to NeXT system administration issues; in rare cases this will spill over into .programmer or .software. Related Newsgroups ================== news:comp.soft-sys.nextstep Like comp.sys.next.software and comp.sys.next.misc combined. Exists because NeXT is a software-only company now, and comp.soft-sys is for discussion of software systems with scope similar to NEXTSTEP. news:comp.lang.objective-c Technical talk about the Objective-C language. Implemetations discussed include NeXT, Gnu, Stepstone, etc. news:comp.object Technical talk about OOP in general. Lots of C++ discussion, but NeXT and Objective-C get quite a bit of attention. At times gets almost philosophical about objects, but then again OOP allows one to be a programmer/philosopher. (The original comp.sys.next no longer exists--do not attempt to post to it.) Exception to the crossposting restrictions: announcements of usenet RFDs or CFVs, when made by the news.announce.newgroups moderator, may be simultaneously crossposted to all c.s.n.* newsgroups. This system allows you to request online technical documents, drivers, and other software, which are then sent to you automatically. You can request documents by fax or Internet electronic mail, read them on the world-wide web, transfer them by anonymous ftp, or download them from the BBS. NeXTanswers is an automated retrieval system. Requests sent to it are answered electronically, and are not read or handled by a human being. NeXTanswers does not answer your questions or forward your requests. USING NEXTANSWERS BY E-MAIL To use NeXTanswers by Internet e-mail, send requests to nextanswers@next.com. Files are sent as NeXTmail attachments by default; you can request they be sent as ASCII text files instead. To request a file, include that file's ID number in the Subject line or the body of the message. You can request several files in a single message. You can also include commands in the Subject line or the body of the message. These commands affect the way that files you request are sent: ASCII causes the requested files to be sent as ASCII text SPLIT splits large files into 95KB chunks, using the MIME Message/Partial specification REPLY-TO address sets the e-mail address NeXTanswers uses These commands return information about the NeXTanswers system: HELP returns this help file INDEX returns the list of all available files INDEX BY DATE returns the list of files, sorted newest to oldest SEARCH keywords lists all files that contain all the keywords you list (ignoring capitalization) For example, a message with the following Subject line requests three files: Subject: 2101 2234 1109 A message with this body requests the same three files be sent as ASCII text files: 2101 2234 1109 ascii This message requests two lists of files, one for each search: Subject: SEARCH Dell SCSI SEARCH NetInfo domain NeXTanswers will reply to the address in your From: line. To use a different address either set your Reply-To: line, or use the NeXTanswers command REPLY-TO If you have any problem with the system or suggestions for improvement, please send mail to nextanswers-request@next.com. USING NEXTANSWERS BY FAX To use NeXTanswers by fax, call (415) 780-3990 from a touch-tone phone and follow the instructions. You'll be asked for your fax number, a number to identify your fax (like your phone extension or office number), and the ID numbers of the files you want. You can also request a list of available files. When you finish entering the file numbers, end the call and the files will be faxed to you. If you have problems using this fax system, please call Technical Support at 1-800-848-6398. You cannot use the fax system outside the U.S & Canada. USING NEXTANSWERS VIA THE WORLD-WIDE WEB To use NeXTanswers via the Internet World-Wide Web connect to NeXT's web server at URL http://www.next.com. USING NEXTANSWERS BY ANONYMOUS FTP To use NeXTanswers by Internet anonymous FTP, connect to FTP.NEXT.COM and read the help file pub/NeXTanswers/README. If you have problems using this, please send mail to nextanswers-request@next.com. USING NEXTANSWERS BY MODEM To use NeXTanswers via modem call the NeXTanswers BBS at (415) 780-2965. Log in as the user "guest", and enter the Files section. From there you can download NeXTanswers documents. FOR MORE HELP... If you need technical support for NEXTSTEP beyond the information available from NeXTanswers, call the Support Hotline at 1-800-955-NeXT (outside the U.S. call +1-415-424-8500) to speak to a NEXTSTEP Technical Support Technician. If your site has a NeXT support contract, your site's support contact must make this call to the hotline. Otherwise, hotline support is on a pay-per-call basis. Postings that require editing because they do not contain information in a useable format, or have already been posted to other comp.sys.next.* groups may be delayed, or returned to you. If your posting is rejected, I'll try and make suggestions about what should be changed where possible. Obviously off charter messages (spams, open-letters, etc) may not get a response. Content Guidelines ================== Try to keep submissions short and concise (80-100 lines max). Include full instructions on contacting you (where applicable) All Postings e-mail address, telephone (optional) Press Release toll-free voice phone, toll-free fax, voice phone, fax phone mailing address,info@blahblah.com,retail price, educational price availability Software available ftp site full path to file IN URL FORMAT supported CPU's for binary distributions, OS version requirements Meeting Announcements location of meeting, time of meeting, speakers expected Signatures will be deleted automatically, so please don't rely on your .sig for the contact information Please double check all information you are posting for accuracy. If you are announcing software available by FTP, make sure the copy on the archive site is good. Announcement of Product Sales ============================= This is an area of announcement that has caused me terrible grief in the past. The policy is tilted towards the ISV, which has worked out well in the past. Posts that announce sales of products that you are DIRECTLY involved in the development of are OK. Posts from companies trying to sell other products are evaluated on an individual basis. Time Sensitive Announcements ============================ Many times an announcement should coincide with a specific date. Unfortunately, that can be the worst time for you to get access to your internet connection to send the announcements to comp.sys.next.announce. In order to make comp.sys.next.announce as timely as possible, I will accept "post-dated" announcements for release on a specific future date. All information will be kept confidential until the requested release date, and NDAs will be signed where required to ensure this. Hopefully this will make these announcements arrive at users sites as quickly as if you posted them directly to comp.sys.next.whatever. Submissions can be sent to next-announce@digifix.com. OlafAM.app can dial for you. configure the behavior of the answering machine for your own purpose. You can play messages, reading digits entered by the caller, and invoke actions depending on the results of this input. You are able to listen to recorded voices from a remote place, and you can leave a message for friends. You are able to build a "Fax On Demand" machine. Received calls can be delivered to your mailbox, and a simple doubleClick will play it. send faxes using the PrintPanel This means, that you can fax everything you can print. receive faxes Received faxes can be delivered to your mailbox, and a simple doubleClick will display it. receive data calls Everybody can dial into your computer, if this feature is enabled. make data calls Use PPP, uucp or other programs to call out into the wide world of data communications. Requirements ------------ This software is built with white NS3.3 and tested on white, black and yellow NS3.3. It will probably also run on green computers. Following modems do definitely work together with this software: ZyXEL U1496?? (voice/fax/data modem) ZyXEL E2864?? (voice/fax/data modem) Creatix SG 2834 turbo (voice/fax/data modem) Creatix SG 2834 (fax/data modem) Other modems including a ROCKWELL chipset will probably also work. Modems only supporting Class2.0 Fax will maybe work. People who help me to support a modem, which does not work together with this software, will get a free permanent licence. Use --- If no licence string is entered, this package will run in demo mode. That means: * Incoming voices are limited to 4 seconds. * Regarding digits entered by caller disabled. * Incoming faxes are disabled. * Outgoing faxes are limited to 1 page. * Incoming data calls are limited to 1 minute. You can order a licence for 10 days for free, which enables all functions. You can order a permanent licence for each feature, either voice or fax or data with following prices: Voice Fax Data All 40 US$ 40 US$ 20 US$ 85 US$ Answering machine programs -------------------------- Answering Machine programs will be written in the language "AnsweringMachineLanguage" (AML). It is simple and sufficient for (nearly) all cases, i can imagine. You can have as many programs as you like. They are compiled QuadFat by Eric Tremblay (eric@cdrom.com) and I copied them off the Nebula/Walnut Creek CD-ROM set which Eric puts together. See http://www.cdrom.com/titles/share/nebula.htm for more information on the CD-ROM set and http://www.peak.org/~luomat/next/ for other NeXTStep CD-ROM sets For those who aren't familiar, these programs, see /NextLibrary/Documentation/NextAdmin/09_StartShut.rtfd Login Hook A script or application that runs when anyone logs in. Logout Hook A script or application that runs when anyone logs out. LoginHook will look for the file ~/.LoginHook when a user logs in and run it before the loginwindow starts up. WOAccess allows WebObjects developers to control access to all or to individually specified components. San Diego, CALIFORNIA - February 19. 1997, Starr.Com, an innovative NeXT software developer, announced today the beta release of WOAccess, the first access control framework for WebObjects 3.0. WOAccess extends WebObjects with an easy, configurable access control mechanism and user authentication framework. All that is needed is a single configuration file with the addresses of the clients which are allowed to access WebObjects applications. The configuration file is similar in function to '.htaccess' files available on popular web servers. WOAccess works with Pro and Enterprise versions of WebObjects, as well as compiled and scripted components. Configuration The WOAccess framework has a wide range of options set in a configuration file: * Global - for all components of the application * Individual - for each component * Group - for a group of components (like a frameset) Key features are: Access control: * by IP address (including netmask) and domain names * by users and groups Authentication:. * HTTP Authentication Protocol (supports Basic and Digest schemes) * A WebObjects component (i.e.login panel) * A custom component Certification: * WOAccessFileCertifier (flat file user and group files) * ApacheCertifier (uses Apache user & group files) * A custom component (user & group information from a database) Support of response components Unlike in regular HTTP requests - there are usually two pages (components) involved in a WebObjects transaction - the WOAccess Framework performs access checks on both the request and response components. WOAccess prevents further component initialization where user access is 'denied' to the component. Errors and access denial messaging is supported by either WebObjects components or static HTML. Extendable WOAccess framework has a documented API and is extendable through custom bundles such as authentication, certification, and login components. For more information, documentation, and the beta program please visit our web site at: http://www.starr.com/WOAccess Starr.Com is positioned to provide dynamic security solutions for WebObjects applications. Starr.Com was founded in 1991 and is based in San Diego California. The company is a privately-held venture. For more information call (800)397-7909.

(www.iconixsw.com) is pleased to announce the immediate availability of all 10 ICONIX PowerTools modules, including ObjectModeler, the leading Macintosh OOA/OOD tool, for the NextStep operating system on the Intel platform. "ICONIX has been building development tools for the Macintosh since 1984, with a strong focus on object-oriented analysis and design since about 1990," stated company President Doug Rosenberg. "We think that ObjectModeler's advanced O-O modeling capabilities are a perfect match for NeXT's state-of-the-art Object-Oriented development environment. In particular, we believe ObjectModeler's support for OMT Class Modeling and Use Case driven modeling (Jacobson's Objectory) provides an excellent front-end for developing with the NeXT Enterprise Object Framework, Interface Builder, and, of course, WebObjects. We expect a significant number of new developers to begin working with the NextStep frameworks in the near future and are ready to provide analysis and design tools to support them." ICONIX uses porting technology from Albuquerque, NM based ARDI, Inc. (www.ardi.com) to enable applications for NextStep/Intel. ICONIX applications are also deployed across SunOS, Solaris, HP-UX, Windows 3.1, 95 and NT, as well as NextStep and MacOS. Appended is a snippet from the README file. Enjoy. ____ Rex A. Dieter rdieter@math.unl.edu (NeXT/MIME OK) Computer System Manager http://www.math.unl.edu/~rdieter/ Mathematics and Statistics University of Nebraska-Lincoln GSPrintFilter.1.12.README Feb 1997 To be (most likely) placed at: ftp://ftp.next.peak.org/pub/next/apps/utils/printer This GSPrintFilter package includes primarily Aladin Ghostscript, v4.03. It's application here is used as a filter, so that one can use a Non-PostScript printer with NEXTSTEP/OPENSTEP. It comes bundled with many public domain fonts (PostScript and otherwise), but will fall back to using installed Postscript fonts in /NextLibrary/Fonts/outline and /LocalLibrary/Fonts/outline. HISTORY 1.12 - Modularized GSPrintFilter into 3 separate packages: binaries, setup documentation, and fonts. - Fixed typo in GSPrintFilter.postinstall so that a 'burst page' no longer prints a garbage 1st page before actual printjob. The script SHOULD set the printcap variables sb AND sh to false), not just sb. Note: similar symptoms as this occur sometimes when using NeXT's Parallel port driver, especially when printouts stop after just a few pages. - Compiled against Xnext X11R6 libs (succesfully, this time). - Added drivers: lbp8, lips3, lj250 (and alternate declj250), oki182, okiibm, st800. FILES GSPrintFilter.1.12.NIHS.b.tar.gz: REQUIRED Alladin ghostscript version 4.03 binaries and assocated files. Installation of this package is optional if you already have homebrewed gs binaries, but you will need to modify the setup instructions appropriately to reflect the different installation and locations of files. GSPrintFilterSetup.1.12.d.tar.gz: REQUIRED Setup instructions and documentation to install ghostscript as a NEXTSTEP/OPENSTEP printer filter. GSPrintFilterFonts.1.12.d.tar.gz OPTIONAL Alladin ghostscript fonts (and associated Fontmap). Extracted from font packages distributed with ghostscript. These fonts aren't neccessary since ghostscript can (and should) be configured to use NeXT's resident PS Fonts. Note that some public domain PS Fonts do not work in conjunction with ghostscript. SUPPORTED PRINTERS This version of ghostscript supports primarily Epson, Canon BubbleJet, HP DeskJet, HP LaserJet, HP PaintJet printers. Any printer capable of emulating these types of printers is also naturally supported. From: support@Radical.Com (Radical Product Support) Newsgroups: comp.sys.next.announce Subject: SUBMISSION: RadicalNews 0.8.11 Date: 28 Feb 1997 22:52:16 GMT Organization: Radical System Solutions, Inc. Message-ID: <5f7nj0$o9o@news.digifix.com> February 28, 1997 - Anaheim Hills, California. Radical System Solutions, a long-time provider of object oriented expertise to the professional market, is proud to release the latest free beta version of the most "dangerous" newsreader on the planet, RadicalNews. RadicalNews is an advanced object-oriented newsreader, designed for the discriminating NEXTSTEP marketplace. This version provides a work-around for an apparent bug in OPENSTEP on Intel platforms that garbles boolean parameters when forwarding methods. This was causing RadicalNews to misbehave and even crash. The bug has been reported to NeXT and only affects applications built under NEXTSTEP and run under OPENSTEP on Intel platforms. It is unknown whether the bug exists on OPENSTEP on Sparc platforms. RadicalNews is built quad-fat, running on Motorola, Intel, Sparc, and HP platforms with NEXTSTEP 3.2 or later. (NEXTSTEP 3.0/3.1 will work, but are not supported.) The J version requires NEXTSTEP-J. The beta version is free, and will run until May 1, 1997. After the beta period, a license may be purchased. The beta version may be available via anonymous ftp at: ftp://next-ftp.peak.org/pub/next/submissions/RadicalNews.0.8.11.NIHS.README ftp://next-ftp.peak.org/pub/next/submissions/RadicalNews.0.8.11.NIHS.tar.gz ftp://next-ftp.peak.org/pub/next/submissions/RadicalNewsJ.0.8.11.NIHS.tar.gz RadicalNews should eventually be found at: ftp://next-ftp.peak.org/pub/next/demos/news/RadicalNews.0.8.11.NIHS.README ftp://next-ftp.peak.org/pub/next/demos/news/RadicalNews.0.8.11.NIHS.tar.gz ftp://next-ftp.peak.org/pub/next/demos/news/RadicalNewsJ.0.8.11.NIHS.tar.gz ftp://peanuts.leo.org/pub/next/Network/news/RadicalNews.0.8.11.README ftp://peanuts.leo.org/pub/next/Network/news/RadicalNews.0.8.11.NIHS.b.tar.gz ftp://peanuts.leo.org/pub/next/Network/news/RadicalNewsJ.0.8.11.NIHS.b.tar.gz Our web site will have updated information and links to the most current version: http://www.radical.com/ For further information, contact: Radical System Solutions, Inc. mailto:RadicalNews@Radical.Com
