MacKie-Mason) Subject: Problem receiving mail on local machine I have just hooked my NeXT cube to the internet (via ethernet), and most everything seems to be working just fine...except that all mail sent to my machine is bounced. I am a subsidiary machine on a local subdomain, and my sendmail.cf is thus linked to sendmail.subsidiary.cf. I can send mail out and all of the local nameservers recognize me. Below is the bounced mail from a message I sent from another machine on the subdomain. Can someone point me towards the problem here? NetInfo, NetInfoManager, MailManager....it's all mostly a mystery to me still... ================== begin bounced message =========================== adam.econ.lsa.umich.edu (NeXT-1.0 (From Sendmail 5.52)/NeXT-2.0) id AA03729; Tue, 29 Oct 91 11:38:04 EST king.econ.lsa.umich.edu.econ.lsa.umich.edu (NeXT-1.0 (From Sendmail 5.52)/NeXT-2.0) id AA02327; Tue, 29 Oct 91 11:40:00 EST

The mailserver here at Goddard is a SUN and a nameserver as well. My problem appeared AFTER I made my station a netinfo and config server and upgraded to 2.1 os. The computer doesn't know who the MAILHOST is, yours apparantly as well, hence the "Host mailhost not found" error message. I partially fixed the problem by putting the mailserver here at Goddard in my netinfo (not as hosts parent domain) and giving it the name of "mailhost". See Next Admin manual page 107-108 on how to do this. I can now send mail but I can't receive. i'd be curious to know if you can recevie email, I still cannot. My next bounces the mail back to the mailserver and its then thrown away. You could also change the word "mailhost" in your sendmail.subsidiary.cf file to your mailserver name.
