Has anyone managed to make CAP 6.0 (Columbia Appletalk Package) work correctly on the NeXT? If so, I'd like a description of the process.

You install it on the NeXT just as you do on any other system, accept that when prompted for kind of machine you're using, you type "next" instead of say, "ULTRIX4". Are you having specific trouble?

I had it working on my NextStation late this summer, but it was just for interim testing while other platforms were in a state of flux. Everything seemed to work fine for me, but I don't have it on my NextStation any more (we use Sun 3's for print spoolers). Most CAP-related talk goes on in the comp.protocols.appletalk newsgroup, since it's a multi-platform product... If you're having specific problems, you might have better luck asking there (the problems are not likely to be next-specific).

Thanks to some very helpful CAP-knowledgeable people, I learned that my problem is that my Mac and NeXT lack a gateway; while this works fine for NCSA Telnet purposes, CAP6.0 doesn't like it. I am told that the problem is in the process of being fixed. I have, on someone else's advice, subscribed to comp.protocols.appletalk, where I am following the news with interest. Soon, one way or another, I hope to use my NeXT Cube as an AppleShare volume. Thanks for the responses, folks.
