Several of the clients (40meg swapdisk) in our lab have been hanging with a message "pbs error: couldn't stat services cache". Further digging in the messages file show this message followed by "loginwindow: Workspace exited ts 0 cd 0 rc 0 sv 0 ss 0." This occurs several times before the machine actually hangs. Since the users continue to try to use the machines, it is hard to tell exactly what caused the error. Sometimes the swapdisk fills up, but this could be heavy Mathematica use. In my searching in NeXTanswers, SupportBulletins, etc. I came across the Techical Alert 91-2. It describes a similar problem caused by a user with too many personal fonts. The problem was tied to a .afmcache file in the user's account. Since I could not find any such files, I would guess that this is not my problem. If anyone has some insight to this problem or could point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it.
