This is Pls-Help:-GNU-tar-1.10-+multi-volume-wont-work-under-cron in view mode; [Up]
Date: Sun 13-Nov-1991 22:58:58 From: axel@claudius1.ccc.incom.de (Axel Rau) Subject: Pls Help: GNU tar 1.10 +multi-volume won't work under cron I wrote a csh-script which does a multi volume (+multi-volume) backup to ordinary files on OD, using GNU tar. When ever the OD gets filled up, tar calls another csh script which unmounts the OD and waits for another one to be mounted to continue the output file. The "+info-script" / "-F" options are provided by GNU tar for that purpose. All works fine if I run the script from a shell but TAR HANGS ON OD FULL (105%) just before calling the 2nd script if run UNDER CRON. I tried all kinds of redirection of stout and stderr, used nohup, finally submitted the job to at: no success. Maybe it has something to do with process groups. Both ways are being run as root. Here is the tar command line: nohup /LocalApps/gtar +verbose +create +multi-volume +one-file-system +block=200 +sparse +totals +exclude-from=/.../PB_exclude_list.gtar -F /.../PB_volswitch.csh +listed-incremental=/.../Work/PB_level-1.tmp /SD1A
