This is NeXT,-UseNIX,-and-Mach in view mode; [Up]

First item was a DOS as a Mach server thing, by Rashid, but that's not really relevent here. The other thing of interest was the absence of NeXT or anyone I recognized as a NeXT employee. That could be because NeXT is too busy to do a presentation, because they are not doing much OS work and enhancement (i.e., little research), and/or because they do not wish to let competitors know what they are doing. Two of those three do not really bode well for the company, it seems to me.

Most of the interesting work on Mach is happening in the context of the version 3.0 system. To the best of my limited knowledge, NeXT is not actively involved in this. Hence, NeXT's not being present doesn't seem that interesting to me. >That could be because NeXT is too busy to do a presentation, because they >are not doing much OS work and enhancement (i.e., little research), and/or >because they do not wish to let competitors know what they are doing. Two >of those three do not really bode well for the company, it seems to me. Your second possible reason is confused. I can think of lots of work and enhancement that NeXT could do on their OS and none of it would be considered interesting research. So I can't imagine how not being at this workshop could hurt them.
