Television advertising is rather expensive to produce, paid air time certainly ain't cheap, and (except for program-length commercials) the message is gone in a few seconds, and usually needs to be repeated over and over again (more $$$). NeXT knows who its audience is. "It ain't Pepsi drinkers" I'd rather see NeXT underwrite NPR than buy TeeVee. [But the 1992 Summer Olympic Games are so well-timed. :-) ] -=EPS=-

I can't remember if the NeXT logo shows up anywhere though... --Erik

It is pretty silly, but it'd make a neat demo of it's graphics ability. Especially if done on a ND. >PS And they could render the whole thing with a ND, and... Yup, and then ya could do the pan back from the commerical to the "real" thing ala IBM and Apple multi-media commercials. Except, you could once again pan back from that so that the monitor fills the whole window with the edges included, so the NeXT icon can be seen below. And to really flaunt it, at the end you could just put a little line of text at the bottom of the screen saying, "This commercial done entirely on a NeXT workstation." And then just fade away. Or maybe a voice over saying, "Oh, if you think that someone used some special effects to create this commerical, you're right. They used a NeXT workstation." I've always thought that would be a pretty dang sharp way to advertise the NeXT's abilities. -k

I've been wondering, exactly what software are they going to use to do this sharp commercial? I have yet to see anything on the NeXT as nifty and easy to use as, say, Sculpt/Animate-3D or the Video Toaster on the Amiga. Am I just missing all the good rendering/animation packages on the NeXT? cjs

This is two weeks in a row that I've seen Star Trek studded with two Macintosh ads to be topped off with an add for the Quadra. Let's see some TV stuff, NeXT. I don't imagine add rates on Star Trek or CNN are nearly as much as say network news or network sports. Let's hear about it. | Dean D Blakeley, MD | This ain't no party. If NeXT wanted to *really* do it right, then they'd put a 1 minute spot in during the SuperBowl... instead of doing a "1984" ad, they could do a "1994" ad.... either a "1994: Apple and IBM unleash the future of computing; call NeXT and buy it now." or "1994 will be hell unless you buy a NeXT." and it can have some woman running past dreary offices of people with PS/2's and Mac's on their desks. Apple would probably try to sue. Andrew
