Date: Sun 22-Nov-1991 19:31:25 From: russ@math.orst.edu (Russell Ruby) Subject: Micropolis 1588 in NeXT cube ?? We have an old NeXT cube which needs to have its internal 300 meg disk replaced. Simultaneously, we plan to do the 68040 board upgrade and install the latest version of the OS. We know that lots of people have installed Fujitsu 2263's in cubes, but what about using the Micropolis 1588, which in Sun machines formats to 669 megs... I have heard that the Micropolis drive does not run as hot as the Fujitsu, which would seem to imply that it uses less power, and thus a benefit to the health of the cube. If we purchase a raw 1588 drive, what do we need in the way of extra cabling, and what about jumper settings ? is allergic to synchronous mode and would need to have it disabled on the drive. Thanks, I will summarize responses and possibly installation experience (if we do it) to the net.
