Date: Sun 07-Dec-1991 06:00:06 From: rjp@demetri (Robert J. Pankratz) Subject: Desk Jet Settings There has been some recent discussion on setting up the HP DeskJet series of printers to work with the NeXT Here are my settings that seem to be working. These were tested on a NeXTstation running version 2.1 and using a DeskJet PLUS printer. first the termcap entry: # Desk jet Ghostscript driver df|DeskJet_PLUS: \ :lp=/dev/ttyfb:ty=HP DeskJet Plus: \ :sd=/usr/spool/NeXT/df:br#19200:rw:fc#0177477:fs#0300: \ :xc#0133737:xs#044040:if=/usr/local/lib/djf:pw#80: \ :pl#66;mx#0:sh:sf: I assume that on a 030 machine the settings would be as follows but I have no means of testing it. # Desk jet Ghostscript driver df|DeskJet_PLUS: \ :lp=/dev/ttyb:ty=HP DeskJet Plus: \ :sd=/usr/spool/NeXT/df:br#9600:rw:fc#0177477:fs#0300: \ :xc#0133737:xs#044040:if=/usr/local/lib/djf:pw#80: \ :pl#66;mx#0:sh:sf: The cable required is a plan old serial cable, obtained from NeXT connection, etc. and a Null MODEM adapter... Finally and most importantly the DIP switch settings for the printer are as follows: For the 040 motherboard owners: ------------------------------- BANK-A 1-down 2-down 3-down 4-down 5-down 6-down 7-down 8-up. BANK-B 1-down 2-up 3-down 4-down 5-up 6-down 7-down 8-down. For the 030 motherboard: ------------------------ BANK-A 1-down 2-down 3-down 4-down 5-down 6-down 7-down 8-up. BANK-B 1-down 2-up 3-down 4-down 5-down 6-down 7-down 8-down. These setting have been working good for me, I haven't experienced the postscript errors others have been talking about. Someone might what to forward these settings to the compilers of the FAQs as I don't know where to send it. If anyone else is using the deskjet, have you found a good way to print tex documents, I can't seem to print from texview, and the saving to a file and printing using preview, doesn't generate very good quality results. the email-address below is nolonger valid, send replies to ...uflorida!ki4pv!bliss!demetri!rjp
