I told him `no', but that there were undoubtedly various ways to accomplish his goal (one obvious one being use of modem, but this is pretty slow.) I know this is probably an old question, but, not having a Mac, I never paid attention. Any help would be appreciated. --bruce solomon --math dept --indiana university --bloomington, IN 47405 --solomon@ucs.indiana.edu

If his Mac can read HD diskettes i.e. it is Classic, LC, IIx, IIcx, IIci, IIfx, IIsi, SE30, portable, or recent SE, both his Mac and a NeXT can read 1.44MB DOS formatted floppies. I sometimes do this. Alternatively, he could install FloppyWorks by Digital Instrumentation Technology on the NeXT, rendering it able to read Mac formatted diskettes.

Is it just me, or do other people wish that there were a program which allowed us to use Mac disks just like we can use NeXT and IBM disks? i.e. standard file viewer methodology??? Don't get me wrong, FloppyWorks is fine, but I never really liked Apple File Exchange anyway. (I think they look/feel very similar.) How hard would it be to take the Mac disk reading code and somehow add it to the UNIX file system software?
