This is NeXT-multilingual in view mode; [Up]

Date: Sun 26-Jan-1991 19:27:12 From: goer@ellis.uchicago.edu (Richard L. Goerwitz) Subject: NeXT multilingual I'm new to the NeXT, like most of the world, and I have a fairly simple question. How much support will the interface give to peo- using languages like Arabic, Hebrew, Chinese, etc. alongside Eng- lish. Just to ward off the fonties, let me inject a word: The problem is not one of "fonts," as I'm occasionally told. Displaying the above languages takes an interface that's smart enough to know that some languages wrap R->L, some L->R, some up->down. Arabic and Hebrew also require diacritics. Arabic needs to be proportionally spaced, and the letter forms depend heavily on context. Any help on this question would be much appreciated. -Richard
