Do you think that there is enough interest in Smalltalk programming on the NeXT that Digitalk could be persuaded into writing a NeXT version? I called Digitalk and they said they might port Smalltalk if there was enough interest. ObjectWorks said that there were a lot of inquiries about a NeXT port, but most were from Universities, and since they only charge $350(regular $3500), it wasn't worth their effort. Any Smalltalk programmers out there? -Mike

To my knowledge "Producer" only generate Step-Stone's Object-C code, not NeXT's Object-C code. Sigh ! Jing

In that case I love to thrash my sparc station in favor of NeXT. Also, there is "Smalltalk-Objective C" translator called "producer" which was produced by StepStone. With that capability you can easily prototype application in smalltalk and translate that into Objective-C code. In addition, you can really start to build better type of application prototype environment which makes InterfaceBuilder something out of stone age. Maybe all people interested in having Smalltalk on NeXT should send e-mail request to ParcPlace or Digitalk, that should get their interest up.. -------------------------- Sehyo Chang Ascent Logic Corp chang@alc.com
