Date: Sun 10-Nov-1990 00:10:37 From: sfrank@orion.oac.uci.edu (Steven Frank) Subject: NeXTStation Color Memory and other questions The memory on the NeXTStation Color is "interleaved", and the standard configuration is shipped with two 4mB interleaved simms and four 1mB (unspecified) simms. 1. Can one add standard simms to this board?? 2. If so, what are the various upgrade possibilities? For example: (a) Can one pull the 4 one 1mB simms and add four standard 4mB simms thus mixing interleaved and standard modules in different banks? (b) Can one add two standard 4mB simms to the bank with the two 4mB simms present, ie, is it just the mother board that is interleaved, or is it also the simms, or is each bank either interleaved or standard, but not both? If the case is that each bank may have either specialized interleaved simms or standard simms, but not both then (a) Can the interleaved simms be obtained 3rd party at reasonable prices (NeXT charges too much for cheap memory), or (b) Is anyone willing to trade a pair of the interleaved simms for a pair of standard 4mB simms, thus filling out a bank with interleaved modules or freeing up a bank for a set of normal modules? (save over $500). Is there any newer information about the shipping date of the Color NeXTSTation besides 1st Q 1991? steve steve@fisher.bio.uci.edu
