Daugherity) Subject: Xnext questions I don't know much about X, so could someone please tell me if it is possible to sit at, say, a Sun 3/50 and have everything act like you were sitting at a NeXT? We have 'xsun' set up to start a client and a window manager on the Sun. Now if we install X on a NeXT, can a Workspace Manager be persuaded to ship its display output to the Sun and accept keypushes and cursor moves and mouse downs from the Sun? Thanks for any info (skip the flames). Walter Daugherity P.S. The Sun and NeXT in question are connected via NFS and ethernet.

XNeXT was made to run X windows on the NeXT and not the other way around. If your Sun runs X windows, then you could get your NeXT to behave like the Sun when it runs X windows. Similarly, if you wanted to get your Sun to behave like a NeXT, then you would need to have some application on the Sun which would allow you to run NextStep. Unfortunately, NextStep is only available on the NeXT at the moment. (However, you could run windows from one NeXT to another NeXT, but that's probably not what you want.) Eric Ly

BTW, does anybody know how XNeXT draws on the screen? - Is there one (NeXT-)window with a complete X desktop and X windows inside, or are there X windows directly on the NeXT desktop? - How are the X things drawn? By Display Postscript? Any hints are welcome. advTHANXance, Pit
