Date: Sun 21-Jan-1990 20:21:23 From: jiro@heights.cit.cornell.edu Subject: Keyboard & Mouse replacements: Cost My mouse and keyboard had been feeling unwell lately (too much hacking on Cassandra) and I went to my local NeXT rep. at Cornell to see how much it would cost to get them replaced: Keyboard: $303.25 Mouse: $135 + shipping + New York's 7% Phew.... NeXT is making a hefty chunk with those.... Now I see why a one year service contract is $800... (By the way, all these prices are academic prices, multiply by a suitable fudge factor for Businessland (try 150%)). I was wondering if any third part distributors were going to come out with suitably color matched NeXT keyboards and mice (You can have any color, as long as it's black). I'd be interested and would love to hear if there is any information concerning this... And on the subject, possible keyboard and mice improvements: Keyboard: Function keys for better vt100 and other terminal emulation. Put the dits on the keys where they belong (off from the f and j keys and back on the d and k keys (the dits are the upraised thingamajigs....)) Put the tilde where it belongs, shift-esc is silly. Make the power-off COMMAND-POWER like it should be, I hit it far too many times while adjusting the sound and brightness. Mouse: Three buttons? Optical mice? Trackballs? - jiro nakamura - jiro@heights.cit.cornell.edu
