We Americans have become so imbued with the short-term outlook that we can't conceive of a company taking a long-term approach and making it work. I am increasingly coming to believe that that's what NeXT is doing: they are taking a long-term approach to their product, and hence aren't in panic over what some might describe as flat initial sales. This is a very Japanese approach. Any way you look at it, this is one company that is DESTINED for the B-School casebooks in the years ahead, win, lose, or draw. Joe St Sauver

And I also suppose more ART orientated work will be mainly used with NeXT computers. I also think that most people are not going to just give up there MS DOS or there UNIX/386's for a computer that probably has a while to go yet to get it affordable. I dont mind to have a NeXT computer, just let me afford it and let its applications work with others.. Today we have to many applications that dont fit or should I say.. The Block is different for the hole it's supposed to go into. (grin) NeXT + Support + Affordability = When? (A good question on the outlook) Greg

We came straight to NeXT from MSDOS, and thought it was affordable. When it became obvious that OS/2 wan`t going anywhere any time soon, there were only 2 choices for us, Sun or NeXT. NeXT was more affordable than Sun offerings, and still is for the cost of the entire usable package with necessary tools. We are not going to abandon PC's, as you say. We still use them a lot, and they are still our work-horse computers. But a lot of memory intensive things and drawing work are transferred to NeXT. As time passes, we will take our PC's off our desk and make use of them as ethernet bridges/routers, or other dedicated black boxes. MSDOS computers will survive for a long time that way, as embedded 1-app machines. Izumi Ohzawa, izumi@violet.berkeley.edu
