Date: Sun 27-Sep-1989 07:48:03 From: Unknown Subject: Help with elm, B/Cnews, rn, nn, etc.!! I'm sorry to blindly post this without reading in the group first, but I'm getting desperate. I am currently receiving a partial news-feed at home, and have (so far) been unsuccessful in getting comp.sys.next added to my feed. I'm trying to set up our NeXT machine at work to be a leaf node for uucp and usenet. It would be registered in the .com domain with a dialup connec- tion to someone like apple.com who would be the internet forwarder. There- fore, I'm trying to compile the following programs on the NeXT and get them to work properly: -- Elm 2.2p9 (I know there's p10, but I don't have it yet) -- B-news, or preferably C-news, though I can't get either to work -- rn (seems to be working, though I don't have any news to try it with) -- nn (haven't tried this yet, since I have patch 4, but haven't applied it) If anyone out there is currently running a NeXT machine in such a setup or something close, I'd love to hear from you. Please send email to the address below, or you can call me at (408) 954-6756 (~9am-~7pm PDT) and we can discuss it further. If you have diff files or config files for any of the above and can just email them to me, that would be great, too, though it would probably be best to write first so I don't get millions of files sent to me. This machine will be accessed via Ethernet by several Macs running NCSA Telnet, for the sole purpose of news/mail reading. Incidentally, if anyone has experienced any ethernet problems with the NeXT machine, we're suspecting that ours might be sometimes spewing garbage, thus bringing the net to it's knees, unless it's just a bad cable somewhere. We'll know more when the Sniffer arrives, hopefully within a week or so. Also, my copy of Telnet (2.1e) locks up periodically, forcing me to quit and restart Telnet. Any ideas? Any help is greatly appreciated.
