Date: Sun 22-Sep-1989 23:02:47 From: Unknown Subject: Another success with using Mac SIMMs in a NeXT When converting to 1.0 I also added 8 TechnologyWorks TWM181000-8 1MegX8bit SIMMs. These are page-mode 80ns memories which cost me $109 each. I had previously checked with someone at NeXT to make sure that NeXT also uses page mode access and a 1MegX8 organization. He said that while they may work with other access modes, they have been shipping computers with page mode RAMs and use a 1MegX8bit organization. However, he also cautioned me that they do not support 3rd party RAM upgrages. I noticed that in one of our NeXT boxes, there were actually 9 memory chips per board while another had only 8 with a space for a 9th. (Also, the original chips were 100ns parts.) I was at first worried that the new SIMMs wouldn't fit since they were designed as 1MegX8 boards. However, it turned out that the pin spacing on the new boards were identical with the original boards. My computer booted and passed the memory test without any problems. It reported that it (now) had 15.97 Meg of Ram and has been working very well ever since. -ron fellman rfellman@ucsd.edu >From: rick@lrark.UUCP (Rick Mobley)
