Date: Sun 29-Oct-1989 16:33:41 From: Unknown Subject: Problems Building CL I just got my NeXT, and It's fantastic, but I have run into a problem. That is, my mouse stops moving and the keyboard does nothing when the config shell program reaches a certain point in the build process, i.e. it goes through the normal build, and then when it displays these last two lines, it crashes: . . . [fasl from bundle: misc.fasl] [fasl from bundle: cond.fasl] I assume that when the mouse and keyboard are inactive, the machine has crashed. I tried this several times, either to make sure that this wasn't a fluke, and to make sure it happened at the same time, or out of simple stupidity. I am using a basic cube, running off system 1.0 on the optical disk. If anyone can tell me anything (is it my disk? Is it my computer? (my roms maybe?) How can I fix it, etc . . ., I would be more than obliged. Thanks, Daniel Mark Gessel

Are you using the default parameters in "config"? If not, what params did you use? A friend of mine, who goes to school here and worked for NeXT last year, helped me out and we checked out the dist. In files.bu (I think) was some kind of error. Whenever that file was to be accessed, the system hung. I currently have that file renamed, and have been told, inderectly by NeXT that the problem is probably a bad optical disk. The machine works fine, as long as I leave that file there, and don't use it. I got a good copy and installation went as it should. Thanks, Dan
