Date: Sun 25-Oct-1989 19:26:32 From: Unknown Subject: Printing to non-NeXT remote PostScript printers I'm having this real annoying problem. I've been able to configure a remote printer using lpr on my NeXT workstation and it seems to work just fine when I enqueue jobs to it using lpr. However, when printing from a NextStep application (like WriteNow), the pages are printed in the wrong order. The printer that I'm trying to use does the sensible thing and stacks the pages face down. This means that it want to print the first page first. The Application Kit seems to very carefully generate the pages in reverse order (as evidenced by the files found in /usr/spool/appkit). It seems to me that the pages should be generated in the correct order, and that the printer driver/spooling system reverse the pages, if necessary, for the particular device. I suppose that saving the reversing step makes printing on the local printer a faster operation, but I claim that this is a crock. In any case, how do I convince WriteNow, the Appkit or the Print object to generate the pages in "normal" order so that I can print them on a sensible, ethernet attached printer. I've grown tired manually reversing the pages. I orginally thought that perhaps some software looked at the Adobe Printer Description files to determine the page order, but it seems that none of the Printer Description files provided on the system have any mention of the method of page stacking. Now, if I could take advantage of the duplex printing feature of my DEC LPS20, I'd really be happy. louie >From: woo@pioneer.arc.nasa.gov (Alex Woo)
