As a grad-student I would like to get a jump on the next generation (no pun intended) of systems. Also this is the best time to buy a machine...it's still somewhat affordable ! I have some questions regarding the cube which need to be addressed before shelling out ca. $8500 for this machine. 1 - I don't particularly want to be stuck with an $8500 workstation with no access to the outside world. Can I hook up a modem and talk to the outside world via TERMINAL? 2 - I understand that there is software written for the MAC (same CPU) which emulates an 8088 session. Does anyone know who wrote it and if they intend on porting it to the NeXT platform? (If not, might they perhaps be interested in someone else doing it for them..) 3 - Should I bother with a hard disk (that means a loan) or will the 40Mb SCSI be enough of an aid in relieving the Floptical drive? I really am impressed by this machine. I realize that the current software base is not very large but that's something that can be solved over time. P.S. I am not sending this from my account...this is coming from a friend's account.
