Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems as if NeXT intends to ship 40MB SCSI acclerator drives not only with new OD-only cubes, but also to those who already own them. If so, I think that's fantastic -- such a company deserves the highest praise. But I can't help but be somewhat jealous. After all, I coughed up the bucks (a week ago) to get the cube with a 330MB drive in the interests of decent speed. How 'bout something nice for us folks who spent even more than the minimal $6500? A few MB of RAM make an excellent gift idea. Or just be creative! I'm easy. DR >From: dcarpent@sjuphil.uucp (D. Carpenter)

I think what NeXT is doioing is great, and I am also VERY happy with my Cube. But I can't help but wonder what else I will lose out on for having bought the original package in the only configuration that seemed to really make sense. Do we get a consolation prize? How about the ability to use foreign diacritics in WriteNow?

I add my applause to NeXT, Inc. assuming it is true that even us souls who purchased OD only machines in the past will get the swap disk. I make one other suggestion. I found my cube to be practically impossible to use when I first unpacked it because it was so slow. I went to 16MB of internal and found a world of difference. My machine loads as fast as the one down the hall with a hard disk and mathematica runs like a dream. So... I think people would be far more impressed with the machine's performance if the minimum configuration was 12MB ram instead of 8. On a related note, I hear its pretty much a settled fact that early in Q2 next year (fingers crossed) EVERYONE will upgrade to the 68040 (50 MHZ!) for some minimal cost. Assuming this is true, what about the 8MB of 80ns ram I bought for my present board? Can I use it in the new board?
