Date: Sun 09-Nov-1989 00:14:02 From: Unknown Subject: NeXTBus v NuBus Difference and IEEE-488/GPIB availability our group is considering purchasing a next computer (among several candidates) to be used for control and data acquisition in the laboratory. this would be done with an ieee-488/gpib interface card (and possibly also a general-purpose A-to-D/D-to-A card). a few questions in this regard: 1) is the nextbus the same animal as a nubus? if not, what are the major differences? 2) can i take an off-the-shelf nubus gpib interface card and plug it into the backplane of the next computer and expect it to work (assuming that i can plug it in in the first place)? 3) if not, are there any 3rd party vendors who make gpib interface cards that work with the next computer? a phone call to next resulted in my being told that national instruments makes a gpib interface card for the next computer. but according to a/the sales manager at national instruments, they make no such device. please respond via e-mail to anthony@csvax.caltech.edu. lawrence anthony >From: combs@sumex-aim.stanford.edu (Dave Combs)
