Date: Sun 28-May-1989 23:58:28 From: Unknown Subject: Patches to dvips that let you preview the output using Preview I spent some time this weekend modifying dvips, the DVI-to-PostScript converter distributed with 0.9, to generate PostScript that is a little more conformant with the Adobe document structuring conventions. I have had success previewing output from this modified version using the Preview application in /NextDeveloper/Demos. There are limitations, of course; for example, you can only preview documents that use less than a megabyte of font memory. However, it's nice to be able to look at short documents on the display before printing them. Especially when there are Encapsulated PostScript insertions in the figures. :-) I've put a kit containing copies of the files I modified in the anonymous FTP directory on emx.utexas.edu (128.83.1.33), in the compressed tar file pub/next/dvips-patches.tar.Z. There is also a copy of the file in the anonymous FTP archive on cs.orst.edu, in pub/next/submissions. I can mail a uuencoded copy of the file to anyone who can't access these sites. You'll also need a copy of the 0.9 dvips sources, which may be found in /usr/lib/tex/ps/dvips.tar.Z on any 0.9 system.
