Date: Sun 25-May-1989 13:51:09 From: Unknown Subject: NeXT needs a key After resetting the parameters on one of our public NeXT machines for the Nth time, I find myself wishing for a key, like larger systems have. I would have this be a multi-position key, with the following positions: 1) Autoboot multi-user, disable nmi, power, and reset keys. 2) Unrestricted (like it is now) 3) Off This would give us some control over the hardware, parameters, and disks. As it is, anyone who knows how to hold down three keys can disable the machines, requiring my intervention. Not only is this a major annoyance, but it's a major security flaw, too, and one that does NOT require much intelligence at all to exploit.
