Use ps and grep to find the process that is running /usr/lib/NextPrinter/npd. Su, kill that process and then restart npd. I suspect that npd and lpd are both sensitive to changes in the printcap section of the netinfo data base and must both be restarted when you change it. The printer driver and the printer application appear to be much more unstable than the ones in 0.8.
