This is Keyboard in view mode; [Up]

Date: Sun 26-Jun-1989 16:12:55 From: Unknown Subject: Keyboard A few questions about the NeXT keyboard running under 0.9: 1. The documentation states that the SHIFT-ESC key should produce '~'; it produces nothing. Is there a way to fix this, or will it be fixed in 1.0? The '~' character is important for unix and for typing TeX. 2. I would like to change the Meta key in emacs from ESC to ALT. I have this on a PC version of emacs (called epsilon), and I find it *extremely* convenient. Switching to ALT should allow repetition by holding down the ALT key (just as one can repeat commands with a prefix CTRL). Also, it should free up the ESC key as another prefix key. How can I do this? I know that emacs detects the ALT key--by typing C-h c and then pressing ALT-a, for example. 3. I would also like to have CTRL-ALT as a prefix key. Can I do this? 4. Is it possible to assign different functions to the numeric keypad. Now they seem to duplicate the corresponding keys on the keyboard exactly, i.e., emacs can't tell the difference between '5' on the ordinary keyboard and '5' on the numeric keypad. It would also be nice to have ALT, CTRL, and SHIFT available for the arrow keys. Will emacs change under 1.0? Can (and will) it be made into a NeXT application so that Cut, Copy, etc. and mouse commands work with emacs? Finally, a different question: What are the (NeXT) conventions for deciding whether to capitalize the name of a file or directory? I welcome help either as a posting to this newsgroup, or as email directly to me. Thank you. --Dan Freed >From: mic@ut-emx.UUCP (Mic Kaczmarczik)
